I was driving around with a couple friends earlier today and we needed to fill up.

We pulled into the self serve part of the station and proceeded to refuel.

The gas station guy was at some lady's window and she was like "excuse me son, could you get me a coke and a pack of cigarettes while it's filling, and wash the windows too?

and he said "nope, I'm not a waiter" and she was like "are you always this rude?"

He didn't say anything. He walked away and started washing every single window on the car that was waiting behind her, then he took the pump out of her car and started filling the one behind her up and said "Excuse me ma'am but i'm going to have to ask you to pull ahead and go pay inside.

I tipped the guy and he didn't even fill us up.

Gas station workers fill up customers cars in America?

---- me that's some lazy ----.

I know there used to be a lot of stations down in Oregon and California.. I haven't seen it in forever.

Honestly I would have been nice enough and done what she asked.

If I was his boss he would be sacked there and then.

But yeah, all of our stations have attendants. Maybe 10% of all the stations in Ireland are self-serve.

The only full service station that I know of charges 10 cents more per gallon for it.

Where I live, all fuel purchases must be paid at the pump, or pre-paid in cash.

There were a bunch of instances where people fuelled up, and ran off without paying. One retarded attendant got run over trying to stop a guy, hence the law.

In NZ all petrol stations have attendants, And if you ask them, They'll fill up your car for you.

Oh yeah. That new law started today didn't it? I wish I could have a law named after me just for doing something stupid.

Down in Miami, I have NEVER seen a gas station that wasn't self-serve. Also, that lady that asked the attendant to go get items for her is truly rude herself and we see lots of those in Boca Raton.

In certain states you're not allowed to pump your own gas. Oregon for example, we went this summer and I got out to fill up the car and the guy just abruptly came up to me and told me I had to get back in the vehicle with a bit of an attitude and no explanation. So I told this sixteen year old kid to ---- off if he wanted his parents to recognize him when he got home from work, and he got scared and went inside. His manager had to come out and explain to me about the no self service in Oregon deal. I felt like a bit of a jerk in the end but hey, I didn't like the kid's tone.

That sounds like a line from Pulp Fiction

I'll say! You should never argue with a customer.

I hate when people like you are in positions of authority.

I don't care if it's rude, I'll argue with a customer until I can't breathe if I know I'm right.

Example: Customer came in to place an order one evening. She said she'll be back in at 11AM the next day to finish the order. I told her I'd hold the order and it wouldn't be started until she came in, but it would be done by 3PM if she's there on time. She comes in at 3PM, having never come by earlier to finish the order. She goes insane. Yells at me about how she never said she'd come by at 11AM (it was her idea ... ) and yells at me for not finishing the order "on time." I check and apparently somebody else had done the part of the order that was already finished, so I set it in front of her so she could see it, hoping she'd calm down. Now she freaks again. "You threw that at me!!" and brings in other customers ... "You saw that right?!". Eventually my assistant manager comes out and tells her off for starting a scene like that in a mall ...

[edit]
I just remembered. This one shift I was working, we were totally dead. So I sat in the back reading a magazine. When the door alarm went off, I'd get up and come out. This one guy came in and immediately started whistling like I was a dog, telling me to come out. I held my tongue the first time. Then he said he'd be back. The second time he came back he did it again. I came out and said "I'm not a dog. You can either leave or I'll have security escort you out."

The customer is not always right ...

Wow... Ben, I'd never buy anything from you.

There was a time when I was getting ready to build a new computer, so I went into the computer place with $600 cash in my wallet, with a list of stuff from their website. I'd already called to double check that everything was in stock, and I was feeling comfortable.
So I walked into the store, with my preppy little list in my hand, with a smile on my face. There was a lady behind the counter, literally yelling at a customer who apparently was asking stupid questions about computers, and "wasting her time." I went to someone else behind the counter, and tried to ignore what was going on, realizing that he MIGHT have just been stupid. Then I overheard him, in a calm tone, just trying to explain his question, which sounded pretty reasonable. I asked the guy who was going to help me if he was going to do something about her, and he said she was the manager.
Without even thinking about it, I walked out of the store, and went to Circuit city, and spent $600 there.

If someone is giving you money, you have to treat them like they're paying your salary, because they are. If someone is the least bit rude to me, I can go somewhere else, because I don't need to take any sh*t from anyone, no matter how much I want whatever they're selling.

On another note, I've only heard of one full-service gas station in California, and yes, here you have to pay before you pump, and it's been like that for a long time. Recent (within 5 years) upgrades have been terminals near the pumps that accept cash.
