You know what I am seeing here? Those in a huff because
their thread got closed, agree that the others should have been, but not their own.
No, that's just silly.. Although some people here are complaining about it because THEIR thread got closed, but that is certainly not the case with everyone.
Unless there is swearing, personal abuse, sexually degrading/pornographic material, I don't see the need for threads to get closed. If something goes off topic, does it really matter all THAT much, as long as the discussion is kept clean? I was under the impression that's what 'General Discussion' was for .. debating, going off on a tangent, exploring issues. I would personally like to see the Virginia shooting thread reopened, as there was some interesting points of view and debating happening there..

We could debate the issue indefinitely, but the reality is 32 innocent people died at the hands of a gunman. I sincerely hope they rest in peace. Condolences to their families, friends, school mates, families of similar crimes and anyone else who is affected by this in any way. I think it has reached world wide proportions of people affected, one way or another.

And then was closed. Very frustrating when I for one had been reading through and was formulating a reply/speculation in regards to what others had to say. There have been numerous other threads just in the last week or so, too, that have been closed under similar circumstances.
