Got ownership of my NAMEZERO domain! Finally!

my nic-record is also just until 2001 and not 2002, as I already stated.

When you wanna transfer, you would need to doublecheck with Namezero, that they register you the other year they promised.
(I did sent en email to 'bills@NAMZERO.COM' with that issue... well guess it's gonna take some time until they answer:-(( )

Then you need to which registar you wanna transfer...
I will transfer to godaddy. You have to fill out the transfer form and fax that to them...
gkg.net is working the same way.
weblanching allows you to online transfer the domain, if faxing is a problem for you
(after you got another year from Namezero)

Greetings
Arno

So if you tranfer out of NZ, the billing contact won't be Namezero, and you'll have nothing to do with NZ anymore? I have to make sure.

Well... there's something strange. They put "Record created on 21-Apr-2001" on my domain whois.

But I registered this domain on "18-aug-2000".

Does it mean that I need to wait another 6 weeks from 21-Apr-2001 before I can change the registrar ? or can I transfer it immediately if I want ?

Lex, you got it now:)

_capa_ the dates are similar at the whois of my domain.
(kersche.net)
Guess the date of record creation is set to the date, when the domain was transferd into your name... (change of ownership, cause first it did belong to Namezero).

Not sure, wheater you need to wait another six weeks. That's what I was thinking, too...

Just hope Namezero is adding the extra year soon!

_capa_ that only works when you got registered your domain with networksolutions.com.
you can transfer to them and then make changes... but they are rather expensive

akersche it seems that namezero registered our domains with Network Solutions

here's a part of the whois report of my domain :

Registrar: NETWORK SOLUTIONS, INC.
Whois Server: whois.networksolutions.com
Referral URL: http://www.networksolutions.com
Name Server: ORANGE.IDIRECTIONS.COM
Name Server: GREEN.IDIRECTIONS.COM
Updated Date: 18-aug-2000

So you see the registrar is NSI..

And your domain (kersche.net) displays the same thing (except for the Update Date)

(I did a whois at http://www.betterwhois.com) because it shows the registrar name

_capa_, checked it now. you are right Namezero did register with Networksolutions.

I tried to log into my record. And it seems that I could change the billing contact to my name, too. And also the DNS settings.

But I don't mix up my record now, cause, I still want Namezero to extend my domain name for another year. Paid for it!

But anybody got an idea, if it's easy to transfer out of Networksolution? And if they would charge a transfer out fee?

Easy to 'register out' and no fee (then again this is how it *should* work, who knows with all this stuff). I won't give you my opinion on what everyone should do next time, as you probably already know it.

No email yet ;(. I tried the network solutions thing. It seems as though I can login. I think that is very unsecure. It doesnt ask you for a password or anything just your email address and domain name. Then you are able to change all values.

hi lynks,
didn't get email back from namezero so far... like you

and your security question: you are right, everyone could log in, BUT NOT make changes!
When you wanna make a change, you would need to e.g. confirm the email. (So they would sent you an email and you either need to reply or get further information, how you can confirm the changes)

Greetings Arno

Hi,
well this is not exactly, what you all are interested in, but it's a good sign.
I submitted sometime ago an OnlineForm at Namezero, asking them to use my Nic-Handle, I already created for registering my domain.

The answer I got is really interessting, although, we -here- already managed to find that out:)
In Short: Domain regsitered with NetworkSolution. Got the right to change everything via NetworkSolution.

The Administrative Contact listed for your domain is the only party
authorized to make changes to your domain records. As you have upgraded
your domain's services, you are listed as the Admin Contact with the
domain's registrar Network Solutions and you will need to make the
changes with them directly.

To change your contact information such as an email address or a mailing address use their Make Changes website at:
http://www.networksolutions.com/makechanges/

If you have lost access to the email address required to make the
changes you can create and fax an authorization letter located at the
bottom of this page: http://www.networksolutions.com/makechanges/forms.html

For more information on Network Solutions policies you can choose the
HELP link on these pages or contact their staff directly through their
general telephone line from within North America at 1-800-779-1710, or
from outside North America at 703-742-4777, from Monday to Friday, 7:00
am to 9:00 pm (Eastern time).

I tried to make a little change (zip code) with the forms here http://www.networksolutions.com/makechanges/ and received an automatic reply telling me that this is not possible, here's the mail I received :

----
Dear Customer,

Thank you for contacting Network Solutions, Inc., Registration Services.

The domain name you are attempting to update was registered
through WorldNIC Services and should be updated via the following
URL:

http://www.worldnic.com

You should have a password and an ISP password so you will be allowed
to make updates to this domain name record.

If you lose or forget your account number and password, simply call
WorldNIC's Customer Support at 1-888-NIC-WORLD (1-888-642-9675). Our
staff will ask you for your Domain Name, then ask you for your
authentication question and answer. (During registration you supplied
us with an authentication question and answer which we use to verify
your identity) If you answer correctly, we will provide you with your
account number and password.
-----

And of course we don't have this account number and its password...

Hi,

tried to make changes... first it seemed ok.
But I got the same email about worldnic...
BUT it looks like as worldnic and networksolution are the same company...
you can retrieve your Account Number at:
https://www.networksolutions.com/en_US/account/retail_accountNumber.jhtml
Perhaps it's the same password as the one with Namezero...
I couldn't try at the moment, cause I got a system error...
Keep me up to date, if somebody manages...

Well I got a reply (why my domain expires already in 2001). That was quick:)
Mr. Kersche,
Thank you for your inquiry.
Yes, You are correct, your registration has been extened until 2002.

(guess it's gonna need like 2 days until this shows up in the whois...)

Greetings
Arno

Well. I went here https://www.networksolutions.com/en_US/account/retail_accountNumber.jhtml?domainName=
typed my domain in the first box then OK. and it sent me an eMail with my account number.

I tried to log in here : https://www.networksolutions.com/en_US/account/retail_a1.jhtml
with my account number I just received my email and my namezero password but no luck it didn't work :(

Then I tried to retrieve my password here : https://www.networksolutions.com/en_US/account/retail_enterAcctNumber.jhtml?domainName=
but it asks me for a secret question and I don't have a clue about this...

[edit]I should stop trying to find my password. here's a message i received : "The question or answer you have chosen does not match our records. Please try again. Note: After a total of 3 failed attempts, your account will be locked. "[/edit] :(

This is the email I got from Namezero regarding the extra year:

Network Solutions, Inc, a VeriSign Company, has informed us that the information listed in the InterNic directory of domain names must match the information of the registrant of the domain per rules and regulations set by ICANN
(Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers). We are researching this further but cannot make any changes to information appearing in the directory.

Lynks

Is that mean no one can escape from namezero???? yOu should pay money them year by year and they are still the "real" admin contact.

New response from namezero!

Thank you for your inquiry and your recent upgrade. Namezero's policy is to extend the registration of pay service domains to cover the term of service you bought with Namezero. This means if you purchased two years of Namezero Plus service your domain will be registered for at least two years from the date of upgrade.

Currently we are in the process of transferring WHOIS information for pay members to the members sign up information. Once this WHOIS transfer is completed we will extend the term of your domain's registration based on the product you bought. We are sorry for the delay in getting all this information correct, but we expect to have it completed shortly (all domains are expected to be correctly set up by end of April).

Thank you for using the Namezero Service!

Best Regards,
The Namezero Team
