using my domain for spam

I hear this problem happening a lot. the scum of the internet using domains from businesses to send out spam. I get about 15 emails a day from postmaster@somedomain.com saying emails sent from random addresses like mspkvjui@mattsoft.net couldn't be delivered. they're advertising stock investment opportunities for other companies. I have sent out emails to 2 of the companies using that spammer, saying to cease and desist or I will be forced to sue, but haven't heard a thing from them. is there anything I can do to stop this before my domain is put on a spam blacklist for anti-spam programs?

It happens to me too on yahoo. They keep sending me a shit that says failure delivering this to that. They just make up shit and want you to open it and read it it probably has a virus you can block and delete it. I wouldn't recommend opening it though.

yea, I used to get those too, but this is different. they're using my domain, mattsoft.net, as the from address for the spams they are sending out. if I get 15 emails about non-existant email accounts, then how many do you think they're sending out a day? at least a few hundred.

Yeah I got this too on one of my domains. Luckily I was not using the domain for a site at the moment so I just got rid of the e-mail functions of the addresses that the e-mails were being bounced to. So far no more spam.

Blacklisters are usually intelligent enough to see when the sender address is spoofed (which happens _trillions_ of times a week, yes _trillions_) and won't blacklist you if your server isn't actually sending the spam.

Some are returned due to a virus infection on someone elses system that has an e-mail address in their address book.

Been getting loads of some crappy porn site from all different addresses recently to wierd domain addresses, and all on hidden IP servers.

Good reason to bring back capital punishment if you ask me - the images associated on those e-mails are not pretty and could easily be delivered to minors as they don't seem to be targeted in any way just one bulk list getting upwards of 100 a day.

Anyone finds out who that one i let me know :devious2:

Just read the post I did and realised it looked as if I went to the site :biggrin2: the images are in the e-mail - so a really bad un!

I had a few people complaining that they get virus and spam from my domain name 57host.biz. Damn

There are also those virus e-mails that people open up and it goes thru their address book (usually with Outlook or Outlook Express) and sends itself to people in their using another address from their book as the "from" address. I've gotten "failed" messages from such a thing. It just means that someone who has me in their address book was stupid enough to open a virus. :tired2:

I got like 10,000 of those messages awhile back.
I just contacted the spammer's ISP and I haven't seen a single one since.

thanks dan. that gives me some piece of mind. I do get a lot of viruses in my email every day too, but those are easy to filter out.
