they had been around for quite sometime for doing domain registration.
if not mistaken, they are as old as godaddy.

I heard about namecheap. It is one of the best domain registrar now a day and have good reviews. There also best domain registrar aside from namecheap namely Godaddy, Netfirms, 1and1.co.uk, and Register.com. This 5 domain registrar have good reviews and as well as bad, but I think you should better look at it yourself and weigh whether those reviews are true or not

NameCheap made a breakthrough as a domain registrar, despite that they were not an ICANN accredited at the time. Then we saw them offering web hosting and I believe that this probably made them to loose many contracts with hosting providers.
