how to stop ad-blockers

I'm sure ad-companies will find some way to get around them, they are losing profit too, you know.

I think that's Earthlink's way of asking for a boycott...I might have to contact my cousin who works there & see if she can pass on a lil' message to the higher-ups (emphasis on high, cuz they must be smokin' somethin').
Maybe AOL or MSN got some of their employees hired by Earthlink to take 'em down from the inside by giving management a horrible idea like this...
k..maybe that's a stretch :p

Well I am one of the developer from Antiadbuster!
Well the problem with SSI is for the PHP version, Not all but some Linux Variants were giving problems, hence we were saying people not to use SSI with PHP ver.
Coming back to this...how would I use Antiadbuster w/ SSI?

Hi using .htaccess you can tell your server to parse html files like php file, for more info follow this link

http://www.javascriptkit.com/howto/htaccess4.shtml

The logic is the same..... you would need to modify the stuff, so if you do everything right your .html files can contain php code and your server will execute that code without any problems.

Many people were asking how to do this stuff, may be I will create a help file on www.antiadbuster.com for this (hopefully in a couple of days, when I get some free time!)

My biggest problem at this moment is the monopolism of USA ad programs, refusing to pay for European traffic and (especially) refusing members because of their nationality. I, for example, can NOT join PopUpTraffic and related programs. PopUpSponsor was so kind to make an exception but it didn't generate the revenue I need. With 1500 unique visitors a day, it only generated $0.6 a day. That's not enough. Most of those programs make big promises like $3 - $5 CPM. Alternatives are not available. Fastclick and other HQ programs are reluctant to accept entertainment websites. Other pop-up programs display terrible and unethical ads or pay only a $1 CPM.

Somehow Internet is very USA oriented, especially when it concerns advertisments. Allthough I do not have anything against the USA, it is a bloody shame I can't join certain programs because I am Dutch and only because they have a large amount of fraud cases from this country. We have a name for that in The Netherlands, it's called discrimination. It's also a bloody shame that these kind of programs, like PUT, show ads to all but not pay for all.

Anyway ... website advertising is a difficult thing. That's just too bad because the only thing I would like to do is create nice and beautiful websites. At this moment I am more busy to finance it, instead of updating it :(

i agree with some of this, other parts of it I disagree. The fact that Advertising ignore certain traffic is not suprosing, and not discrimintating (well technically it is, but their trying to earn money, not discriminate due to a nationality) My area has english and spanish channels. Putting english commercials in spanish network is extremely stupid, and vice versa. As I watch Sports Center, I dont want to see Martha Stuart. THe fact advertisers ignore entertainment and european traffic is for the same reason you were getting .6 a day. It's not worth the time or ads for it.

You are right though, it is a shame, and very annoying. Running an entertainment "network" I can't find the money to keep things running. Advertising is killing us, but we all gotta pull through somehow....

One of the more reasons to go the way TV is at the moment.

The people that want to advertise pay directly to the station. Even BEFORE the ad has been shown. This means the money to keep a server up is there before the ad gets show in your own banner rotator, and second, its a whole lot more than $5 per view or click.

I am currently working with a company for them to sponsor my site.

I think that's Earthlink's way of asking for a boycott...

Believe me, no one is gonna boycott because Earthlink helped solve a problem. And yes, popups are considered a problem on the internet to consumers.

I agree Webmasters have to try to make money to cover their costs and make their websites worthwhile to update. BUT, there's got to be better ways than popups. There just HAS to be. Popups are ANNOYING.

People would hate TV commercials a lot more (instead of just not minding them) if every TV commercial was proceeded by a really loud high pitched noise and with neon colors flashing all over the screen in that seizure inducing way. The point I'm trying to make is you have to use an ad medium that isn't intrusive and distracting. Ad banners might not pay much, neither might text links (although I think text links have higher click throughs, but they were a lot less annoying.

Here is my take on it all.

Popups are annoying. I have a popup blocker and if I see popups I never visit a site again. Unless its weather.com or something like that. (Popup blocker doesn't always work but, 99% of the time it does.) As for animated banner ads and neon colors with them. I hate them.

If a webmaster/web service provider can't support their service/site on something besides popups. Close down, the internet users have spoken. No popups!

:D

i think there are two big problems with popups...

1. the intrusive nature of them. when you are watching your favourite reality tv show, it's not like the commercial opens up right overtop of the show and you have to scroll over to the X in the corner and close it, only to find by the time you've moved over there the window has relocated itself onto the head of one of the characters and now you have no clue what is going on in the show and can't close the window... ;)

2. webmasters are not targeting advertisements very well. the problem is, you're still somewhat local on television, whereas online you can't exactly say you only want american viewing audiences for your ads, etc. but when I'm viewing say a web site for song lyrics. why not give me ads where i can buy cd's or sign up for a columbia house membership or something. i don't need to win $500, i don't want to gamble in a casino, and i'm perfectly fine with the figure of my body thankyouverymuch. :) this is sometimes due to advertisers not giving webmasters a choice of what ads they show, but targeted ads are effective ads. random ads, well, if you don't make any money it's not hard to wonder why...

with the pop up blockers though i think it's a classic case of the annoying few ruining something for the masses. so say some web site has 30 popups that come up and every time you close a popup window you get 3 more. and some are pornographic or otherwise offensive to your viewing audience. this is what makes people want to dowload these programs...so why not sue the webmasters that load their sites with popups? to the point of giving me the illegal operation box because there are too many windows and too many scripts telling me i need an x10 camera, go on a diet, or shock the monkey and win 20 dollars.

my $0.02

The targeting of ads are getting better with Google Adsense and similar services, but a lot of the popups are still not very well targeted. If it's a popunder and targeted and only shown once, I can accept it most of the time. But if it's a popup or not targeted I think it's just a waste of bandwidth and time.

I think that most people at my site have these popup blocker programs. Is there any way to avoid these programs so that I will generate more popups?

A reflection on the original post. 1/2 is normal actually. Remember some networks don't always have inventory and foreign visitors often don't get ads.
