Google Spreadsheets

themoose

Sup, Recoil here.

So yesterday google launched spreadsheets. It's basically MS Excel but web-based. Looks like google are going to start some serious competiting with MS, they've got that online word thing coming up soon.

I've got my spreasheet invite, and it looks really good. Check out their tour thing:

Nothing special? Or sucks?

Pick one.

anhedonia: from a google perspective, Why not?

google is trying to be frickin dell and it drives me nuts. before we know it there will be google snack bars and google windshield wipers

That may be. But what have you used of Google's that just didn't work? Things may be useless, but all of them have little or no fundamental coding flaws. Google has done amazing things in the computer field, specifically software and operating systems. They developed their own OS (Coined GooOS) and a number of different web server systems. Full list here

Apart from being a budding software superpower, Google has branched into the hardware field with their Google Search Appliance. The only "flop" on this list is the web accelerator. That was mainly in part to the scrutiny that it came under because of needless security worries.

Nothing of Google's that I have used has just not worked. That's their main separation from Dell.

yes. business principles anyway

dell printers, dell pda's, dell this dell that

google is doing the same thing now
Plus, Dell is doing what Gateway, HP and most other computer manufacturers do....make electronics.

Businesses either grow, or die. There is no third direction.

No matter what Google does, many people will use it, because Google has such a big influence on many internet users. If they made toilet paper, many nerds would buy it so they can say "I wiped my --- with Google!"

Hey, maybe they should. Although if they did it would probably be ad-supported.

Like loading every link on a webpage, including "log out," "purchase item," "post flame without first donning flame-retardant suit," and "deploy the missiles to china, NOW, dammit!" Yes, needless security worries, indeed.

Not particularly, I just think it's bad coding that leads to a giant security hole and a fatal flaw in the program.

If Google keeps doing everything they're going to be "eliminated" soon. Imagine being the competition of 100 international companies
