Free hosting ads vs paid providers post`s on FWS

I guess the golden / glory days on the FWS forums have gone!

Why I say that, virtually (no) free hosting providers posting in the free hosting forums! ( :( )

Paid hosting offers sections is like a busy interchange! All trying to out keyword/price each other (yet it`s only your competition looking at your ads)
 
Yeah, thats kind if funny isn't it?
FWS is all about spam lately, most paid hosting providers don't even answer the questions that they get on their posts.
Its just backlink spamming.

Maybe a new rule should become in place?
If you don't parcipate to the community, you are not allowed to advertise.
 
I'll be honest...I just don't find it the least productive to post free hosting ads. 99.9% of the people we get are spammers, looking to host Russian porn, etc. Our staff was spending more time filtering through the free orders and cleaning things up than they should ever have been doing...even with MaxMind and Fraudrecord and everything else implemented.

I would much rather just offer sponsorships. I know it kinda defeats the purpose, but it was either that or discontinue free hosting all together, unfortunately.

Indeed it is. There's also a rule in place that if you carry advertising you're not allowed to review another free host. So this is basically just the other way round. There may be lack of discussions here because free hosts are restricted in the type of discussions they may have here. Which is a shame. As who better to evaluate another free host than someone who is in the business of free hosting? It's also logical that most free hosts will be posting at FWS because they also want to advertise their business. How many free hosts end up at FWS for the love of it? So I'd think instead of creating more rules there should be a little compromise here and the rules loosened up a little instead. Get things to be a little more chaotic and spamcan/delete meaningless posts or discussion topics instead. That obviously would mean greater involvement of staff, but in a constructive manner by focusing on the quality of the posts regardless of the individuals/hosts who made them.

It's unreal how much this place has died over the last couple of years.
 
Maybe it's because I was on... umm... vacation... and everybody slowly lost interest in this place since I wasn't around. :D

FWS wasn't mobile either, just saw that tapatalk is installed. That should help as well.

I still will accept new free clients- but not those who just sign up without a word and expect to get hosted.

People who have talked to me in advance and can show legitimate interest in a project are still getting the hosting they need, as are the folks willing to pay for it.

Its a shame really, but that's what it has come down to.

^ This is pretty much exactly where I stand these days as well.

BTW, good to see you again man. It's been a while.
