Bess is one of those "family filter" things they usually employ at schools...they use it to try and prevent minors from looking at porn and other stuff deemed unsuitable for students. The problem with Bess is, it blocks out pretty much anything, even stuff that doesn't really need to be filtered.

    Here is Bess

But I take it you don't want the program, but a way to 'trick' it. It is obviously installed for a reason, so live with it :p

2 years ago when my high school was using Netscape, they were on a proxy and only the proxy was filtered. All we did was go into netscape and change the proxy to something else but left it port 80 and it would work fine and we could surf the net. We would d/l napster and crap like that. lol. Now I'm in 12th grade and I dont need their sticken connection at school, i got my own dedicated cable line at home w/ tons of computers. lol.

We have Bess at our school and it's pretty much useless, I just take off the proxy server and weee!

My classmates were like: "How the hell did you do that?"
    It wasn't difficult

Our school turned off Bess this year. I never use the schools computers though. And when I did, it was just to play Minsesweeper/Solitaire.

At shcool, they don't allow ANY personal browsing. All for "research". I'd like to see statistics of the percent of the web that has useful information on it. I would doubt it would be a single percentage point. Don't they know the net is for fun? And they can browse through everyone's history to check what kids are looking at.

I'm assuming he'd get in some major shit if he completely removed Bess. Just getting around it is probably all he wants.

Bess would be good if it wasn't too hardcore in the stuff it filters. I had to do a research paper on card games for an English project, and I couldn't do research at the school cause Bess filtered anything to do with cards and card games because some people feel cards are a tool of the devil.

My school has something that blocks "naughty" words in URL's, so we just use http://www.megaproxy.com (used to use safeweb.com) and get through :D
