A dedicated server means a server dedicated for your usage. You hold root access to the server and may do anything with it (within the bounds of your contract).
There are many different options and service providers but, there are two main types of dedicated servers, Managed and Unmanaged.
Unmanaged means you are required to know how to properly secure and operate the server with minimal help from your provider. These are generally very inexpensive but, can quickly become costly if you are not familair with what to do to operate a server. Note: cPanel is *not* a server control software and is *not* a replacement for a knowledgeable system administrator.
Managed means you are not required to know how to properly secure and operate the server. Your server is handled by your provider including all security and software updates.
If you don't know much about running a webserver you may want to consider a managed dedicated server provider.
Here is a list of dedicated providers that come to mind, I'm not recommending any of these and I suggest you to your homework and research which is best for you depending on your needs, budget and skill level.
