What I'm looking for in a free web host

Hello,

As you probably already know, Geocities will be closing soon.
My personal webpage, hosted on geo since 1998, will go byebye.
The URL to it is:

http://www.geocities.com/wajamala/

Note that it has a frameset, and consists largely of lists
of files for download, and the filetypes vary.
(Those files are MY files, btw)
It also has a few links to other websites (which aren't mine)

I'm looking for a web host which:
* Lets me keep the rights to the stuff I post.
* Is free.
* Will continue to exist (and be free) for a good long time.
* My space needs are currently about 6 meg.
(I doubt I'll be needing much bandwidth)
* Allows all kinds of files to be put up there for download.
* Allows files up to at least 2 meg in size.
* Lets me upload my own HTML files.
* Doesn't mind if I have multiple HTML files.
(if you want them all linked together, thats ok)
* Doesn't mind if I post links to other sites on other hosts
(These would be mostly the personal websites of my friends
and/or relatives, plus a few "see also" links pertaining to
stuff that is on my own site)

Yes, I am willing to have an ad banner, wherever you want one,
even a big one right at the top of my page, since that IS what
really pays for any "free" website.

But please don't automatically insert a heavily-javascripted
ad that destroys my frameset or makes my content inaccessible.
(geocities has done that, from time to time)

I am willing to try post2host, if it doesn't involve *daily*
posting, and is of a format my old pc and 24 Kbaud dialup
can handle. (once a week posting I could probably do)

Please don't just delete my site if something is wrong;
at least not without first emailing me and giving me
a few days to change it.

Either FTP or file-manager is fine with me, just as long as the
file manager doesn't have any adobe-flash or other stuff my old
computer wouldn't be able to handle.
(my pc does handle geocities' filemanager ok)

Either subdomain or subfolder is ok with me.
And I have no need of any php or cgi or sql.
If I have to wait awhile for activation, that's ok too.

In other words, I'm looking for a free web host that is willing
to accept such a complete and utter hodgepodge of miscellaneous
whatnot as what I currently have on my doomed website at geocities.

Re: free.liway.com

Sounds pretty standard actually for modern free hosts.
Check out our packs, I believe we can deliver everything you want.

Sounds good so far.
Even freepack 1 exceeds my needs by a wide margin.

I do have a question about upkeep, though:

It says on the TOS page:

8. Account Upkeep
If you fail to acquire the necessary points to pay the upkeep
for your free hosting account for three months in a row, your
account will be scheduled for termination, and will be terminated
within seven days. For more information, consult the Strike
Level Procedure.

The link on that leads to a page that says:

Strike Level Procedure
From Liway Wiki
There is currently no text in this page.
You can search for this page title in other pages,
search the related logs, or edit this page.

Do I need to generate enough traffic so that the ads
pay for the site? Or are these post2host points?

Also (and this may sound like a dumb question),
Do web hosters host for ppl anywhere, or only
for those in their own countries?

Oops

No traffic or ads. We usually use a post2host system, however not for the immediate future.

Some do, we don't.

Oh. If you don't host for ppl outside Australia, then I've
been just wasting your time asking you all these other
questions. Sorry. I live in the US.

I think you misunderstood me. I meant that some hosts restrict the countries of their users, while we don't (so you can get hosting with us).

cool

Cool.
In that case, I'll be making a host-request as soon as I can get another look at the TOS and unacceptable-use-policy, which at the moment are both showing an error message:
"
MediaWiki internal error.
Exception caught inside exception handler
"
I'll try it again tomorrow.
