On a side note, not directly related to temperature, but weather in general, since when does Maine have freakin Tornadoes?!?!?! I live here because it's supposed to be away from all these disasters--tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanoes.

Yes it's probably El Nino. It usually doesn't get until 33 degrees here. Usually 30-32.
