Truecrypt

i don't trust anything with a .tk addy

personally, encryption on a desktop level is next to useless, unless you work in a high-ranked office at the CIA or something - just a waste of CPU cycles.

I'm not really sure about Truecrypt , since the behaviour of their developers are somewhat suspicious. For example, if you go onto their forums and post any criticisms or negative comments about their software, you will find that those posts will mysteriously disappear. Your user name will also be banned - but you will just get strange error messages instead of being told that they don't like your posts.

While it is their right to moderate anything on their forums, their insecurity is somewhat unsettling. I'm not talking about flame wars, I'm just talking about simple problems or things that don't work on a particular system. Instead of making a reply to such posts, they will just disappear.

For example, when I noticed that some of my posts were disappearing and I was unable to logon for a long time, I made a new user name. Surprisingly I was able to log on using the new user name immediately. To test whether they were censoring negative comments, I made a simple post. I asked whether there have been any independent checks on the implementation of the software. After all, open source software is only more secure if there are peer reviews on the code. I asked whether any other users knew of any such independent reviews.

Is that deceitful, dishonest, or bad in anyway? Well the user was banned and the post was deleted. They don't want people questioning them.
