Too Good

web1000 is awesome. i haven't had any problems. except for they're having cgi problems. so you can't host your own cgi at the moment. i hope they fix it.
 
Funny you should ask this, I just posted one of the main catches! Even though it says you get CGI upload access and several scripts can be used such as a forum of theirs, and other stuff, CGI access is actually down, as they are supposed to be fixing it or something. I have emailed them twice with no reply, that's why I posted, to see if anyone knows about when CGI is coming back online.

That's the only drawback I have had though, other than that, it's good. The severs appears to be fast, they don't put banners on your site at all, BUT, if you or anyone ever enters an incorrect URL, it automaticly redirects you to advertisement for porn (it's an adult orientated host). That's the downside to it. I guess the redirecting because of a bad URL escapes their no ads disclaimer or something. Anyway, they also offer a wide rand of different hosts to choose from (many are very amusing). If you want to see what mine is click URL!here then look at the URL! It's rather rude but I think is very fitting. Also, I'm not sure on support yet, as I have emailed them twice and not got a reply, but they do have an option the site to select your priority (I selected low the first time, and high the second), so you might get a reply pronto if you select highest, also they have some info on how to make a website, and so on. You do not need to be a member to look at it, just got to their website and click on support. Only the webmaster are (which is not all that great) needs a login and password (in other words you need to register). Since I have not got into the service yet, this all I can tell you. Anyway, hope it helps. If you wanted my opinion on if you should register, I would say yes do so, but be alert, and be prepared for no access to cgi.
 
Glad to be of service. As for your files, if your wanting to store them, do what I do... put your files on the site, then put an html page that says something like :


This site now closed. Any links to files have been removed, but if we re open the site, the links will be replaced, because it took time, the files will remain here until we do, but please respect that only links you have may not work. If they do, Good luck to you!

That get's you past most servers rules about not storing files on servers. They don't delete the files without looking for any evidence to support their case. It's worked for me!

But then again, I have no clue as to what your going to do with the files, so if it's not the above then I can't help! Anyway see you around.

Man, those hosts are stupid! Any moron knows most webmasters use relative references to link to files.

Yes, I have had several free hosts (and paid ones) that are rather on the dim side. I thinks it's because they rely on their servers crappy scripts to take a look at bandwidth or something.

The html file is their only for certain purposes. For example, most hosts won't go onto every single member's site, and make sure it's all within the rules. They rely on all sorts of crap like scripts that search for certain files, and bandwisth monitors like you say, but most of these hosts just freeze your account untill the bandwidth counter is reset. Anyway, the html file works in two ways, firstl, they wouldn't usually look at an html file, they would see if it's their (this is the way it was for one of my old free hosts yonks ago), basicly, they would see if files were on the account, then if their were no html files or anything like that they would investigate it further. They allowed us to put files on the accounts, as long as it was not illegal, and not storage. They never found me out.

I pointed that out in an above post. It only happens if you have no default/index.html/htm files on your website, or the url entered is incorrect (for example, if you type bob.web1000.com/mysite.htmll accidently, it will show the ads).
