The neighbors, through the woods to the west, have always been a little odd but today, um...

Well, you see, there's five of them over there (plus three dogs and four or five broken-backed horses). Today the husband dug a big hole in the backyard. This wouldn't be all that odd, he runs a wanna-be landscaping service and is always digging up this or blowing up that, but you see, it's winter and the ground is frozen and covered in a couple feet of snow... this is not the time of year you dig holes. After he dug the hole, there was a pause of ten or so minutes, then four rifle shots, then a pause, then one more shot. Silence followed.

I can think of a number of scenarios as to what happened, but I think the murder/suicide one stands out in the foreground.




This has proved an interesting day, I wonder how it will conclude.
