Site that takes 30gb/day

there are certainly plenty of sites that take 30 gigs of transfer a day, or much more... the difference is they can afford the costs.

I won't swear to it, but I'd venture a guess at:

aol.com
microsoft.com
yahoo.com
ebay.com
google.com
sex.com
amazon.com

Probably many more.

back in the good old days when I had nothing better do to with my time then sell porn, I had a site that site was using around 30GB/day, on the average.

I have a screenshot of an MRTG graph somewhere showing that my site was pulling nearly 10MBPS.

if I find it I'll post it.

ohh god i bet google uses soooooooo much bandwidth soo m any people use it ever day i know i do thats like millions of hits a day

No shit, Sherlock! :p

Google currently responds to more than 200 million search queries per day.

yes, but everyone else is doing a pretty good job.

to name a site much unlike google, aol, or yahoo... a year or so ago rich kyanka at somethingawful.com made many standard features at his site, including forum registration and certain forum permissions, available on a paypal donation-only basis... because the cost of 110+ gigs of transfer each day was threatening to close the site.

lotax rules.

I kick myself for not becoming a member of the forums when I first discovered them a couple years ago.

in news, we get 52 million pageviews a day, just on news.yahoo.com
then there are all of the story pages and index pages and other pages
and that's just in news
mail gets billions of page views a day
around 3 billion on average
Y'know, I'd say Yahoo gets a lot of hits. That's from my aunt, we were talking on IM the other day. She works in the UI department at Yahoo for YIM.

i actually registered there about 3 or 4 years ago when it was powered by a ubb. then i never visited again for a year or two... went back and saw you needed to pay, then thought long and hard for my username and password [i'd long since stopped using the email address i'd registered with]. so i'm in, but only by dumb luck.
