Host-Us.net

Hello Everyone,

As some of you may know, host-us.net, has some issues over the last 9 hours for customers on ww23.host-us.net.

The issue has been resolved, and all accounts are online. The cause of the problem was a hole in Cpanel, that allows outsiders to crash the server by exploiting code that maxes out the ram and swap until the server fails.
( and host using Cpanel, go upgrade, they have now released a patch )

Due to this, and the trouble it has caused we have done two things;

1) We have signed an agreement for an undisclosed amount with Cpanel to have them do all upgrades to our servers, and do daily security checks to prevent this.

2) We will be hiring one additional Level 3 support person to help us keep track of our growing server count.

3) All customers affected, will notice there Disk Space is at 7GB, and Transfer at 70GB as a "Were Sorry". ( please allow up-to 2 hours for this ti reflect in your account summary)

Downtime effects us all, and we take it seriously.

Please feel free to ask us questions etc. However do not bash, it is un-needed, and we know there were problems.

I can't login to my cpanel: pajareo.my.host-us.net/cpanel

And when I put this address (pajareo.my.host-us.net <- MY WEB !!!) on my browser... There is another web there!!! What is happening? I can't understand this mess !!!

More than three days my web is down!!! :doh!: :nervous: :smash:  :molesto:

some change has taken place... it seems that all accounts are now being redirected to a page and it displays:

My condolences .... Seriously!

Most of the time Cpanel usually doesn't know jack about their
own product and the truth be know, they usually cause more new
bugs and security problems than they generally fix ....

Things go round and round until I come along repeatedly and
show them what they are doing wrong and then fixes finally get
released for the general public usually weeks or months after I have
already fixed the same problems and already told many others what
they need to do to fix those problems and the story repeats.

In other realms ....

Cpanel has been spending the past 3 years trying to get Apache 2
support up and running and even now is still in beta under EDGE and
still can't get everything totally quite right themselves even though
I find it all quite simple myself but then I've got more than 30 years
experience doing this and similar work --- the irony.

Although Cpanel's slowness working out things for themselves has been
very good for me business wise since I'm presently about the only person
out there who has been able to consistently upgrade production machines
to Apache 2 and actually keep things stable and secure in the process!

Because of the above though, more hosts than I can count have requested
and hired me specifically to get them upgraded to Apache 2 and/or fix all their
Cpanel issues and also resolve all their security problems in the process
which actually is my primary specialty professionally speaking.

2) We will be hiring one additional Level 3 support person to help us keep track of our growing server count.
If I had the time, I would probably be interested but then I have
76 hosting services to oversee as head of the company directly
while also simultaneously handling all the hundreds of requests
from everyone on the planet (meant that literally) requesting me,
personally and specifically, to handle all their own security hardening
and server deployments.

The big irony is that a great many of those requests come from competing hosts
which is a good thing I suppose and I guess it does say something about my skill
and reputation even though that does keep me on a very busy schedule! ;)

Never the less though, I still do try to make myself available to anyone
in need of serious help with security or server issues. :cool2:

Given that you already ran into security problems and downtime,
I would be glad to take a look around and give you a few tips on
improving the security on your network and servers and can
probably show you a lot of place where you are still insecure.

In any case, good luck to you and wish you the best, Host-Us.net

Yes we do [take down time seriously]. I still have two support tickets sitting in my acct. that have been there for 9 days and no one has bothered to respond.
Obviously cannot log into Cpanel.
My question would be... will my acct. ever be restored ??

have you tried emailing the admin directly about your problems, id suggest doing that, and if you still recieve no response then maybe consider moving :)

Yep did that... no use... now i'm an admin of 4uhost.info. Much much better service!!

i looked at your site, surely youll need to introduce ads in a minute, what is the point of free hosting if there are no Revenue inlets, unless its a hobbie with major backing. I dunno i was just amazed as you seem to have quite a few customers.

Yep, he has no problem funding his servers. Very soon he'll be adding another server.
