It's simplistic, but you have the option of adding countless mods if you so desire.
The phpBB community is helpful too, unlike InvionBoard where there's only a bunch of two year olds running around.

i prefer phpBB but only because i'm using it right now. If i had to choose right now, i'd probably choose Invisionboard.
Then again, who knows what they'll pull off with phpBB 2.2.. can't wait
