Notepad++ Works great, I've been using it for a long time now. It edits not only PHP, but ANY file too!
For text editing (including php) theres also TextPad, Edit Plus, EditPad, UltraEdit, Scite, ConTEXT, CrimsonEditor, emacs, vim, PSPad, or dozens of other lesser-named ones.

or if you like IDE's:
PHP Designer, Rapid PHP, Eclipse PHP IDE, Dev-PHP, Bluefish, or Anjuta.

Most pro web designers use Dreamweaver or Zend Studio.

Both those programs are great so it doesn't matter which one you get...lol Except PHPEdit I think is a little better...You can apply for a permanent personal license so you don't have to pay for it which is what I did.

I don't thik so much of dreamweavers capabilities, but if what you want is WYSIWYG editing, then go with that....

I use Notepad++ because it's full of features (but still no FTP... That's okay for now) and the interface is very simple to use. It also highlights syntax in 50+ languages (it can highlight PHP, HTML, Javascript, and whatever in the same PHP file) and it shows where there are unclosed brackets, braces, and parentheses.

$500...... what does that too....I am really intrested how it compares to Dreamweaver.
