Optical Mouse on the fritz.

My mouse is dieing.

It stops responding to movement or clicking or both at the same time, generally during a game of counter-strike, but also happens when surfing the net, playing around with photoshop and stuff. I generally have to bang it lightly on the table repetitively to get it to respond again.

What's the problem?

It's a Genius NetScroll Optical Mouse, I've had it for about a year now.

The optical sensor may be dirty.. have dust it in, etc.

Is it a cheapo mouse? Mine is aswell and its doing the same thing, seems like you pay more you get better quality.

well i got it for $20, so it is kinda, but i wouldn't call it cheapo.. because its 'Genius', but yeah, I think cheaper mice do have a shorter lifespan.. especially for someone who is constantly smashing the left-button trying to shoot something

i clean my mouse with Walgreens alcohol and paper towels every other week

its a Logitech and its been working fine for almost 2 years or something
