I've finally decided to give up my good old dell lappy and I need a new computer.

I have about 700-800$ cdn to work with.
It's tight, I know, but what do you know, It dosnt rain paper money here in montreal :)

here's a little chart:

Case: Antec SX630II 300W PERF2 w/ PS 122.57$ CDN
Power Supply: Antec 300 Watt Solution Series (SL300S) 0.00$ cDN
Motherboard: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2500+ 333 512K 145.00$ CDN
HD: 120Gb Maxtor 7200Rpm 149.00$ cDN
video Card: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Ram: Kingston KVR DDR DIMM 333MHz 512M 145.00$ CDN
CD-Rom: LG 16X DVD 47.00$ CDN
CDRW: Sony 16/10/40 Unlim Buffer own
Mouse: Wireless Laser Logitech own
Keyboard: Dell Keyboard Own

no idea for mobo and video card.
mobo has to have ddr/audio/lan
video... humm all in wonder tv-in tv-out exists?

Feel free to change things in my setup :)

So that leaves you with... $81CAD.

So that's $58... you can forget about getting a motherboard and video card for that cheap. Hell, you're not gonna get either one of them that cheap.

Case: Antec SX630II 300W PERF2 w/ PS
Power Supply: Antec 300 Watt Solution Series (SL300S)
Motherboard: Asus A7V8X-X KT4
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2500+ 333 512K
HD: 120Gb Western Digital 7200Rpm
video Card: MSI GFX FX5200-T128 AGP 8X Tv-Out
Ram: 512Mb DDR 333Mhz Premium
CDRW: Sony 16/10/40
Sound Card: Standart PCI-32

905.94$ CDN taxes included

how does it sound?

get a nForce2 based mobo. KT4 sux --- compared to it. And dont get a 5200fx they suck. Get a Geforce 4 Ti4600 or Radeon 9500. Even my higly modified gf3 ti500 beats the 5200 like a sack of trash.

Case: I'd say standard with 350w PSU - $60
Motherboard: Giga-Byte GA7N400L - $125
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2500+ - $145
Memory: 2x256MB PC2700 Premium(Hynix/Micron/Infineon) RAM - $140
Video Card: POWERCOLOR AGP RADEON 9600PRO - $199
HD: 120.0 Western Digital 7200 8M - $175
CDRW: LITE-ON 52/24/52 - $69
Soundcard: Hercules Muse 5.1 DVD - $45

Total: $958

Granted you are getting a better video card than the FX5200(which is the equiv. of a GeForce4 MX), a nForce2 motherboard, dual channel ram, and a better harddrive.

Conscript, Cyberpowersystems doesn't have that great prices...

Where did you get those prices from daniel?

my friend ordered his parts from pccanada.com
Anyone has any experience with them?

conscript, microbytes.com

XP 2500+ 512k 333FSB Barton
Gigabyte 7n400-L1 SocketA Nforce2 sound/lan
Infineon 512Mb PC3200 DDR400
maxtor diamondmax plus 9 120Gb 7200 2mb 8.5ms ata133 quiet
ati radeon 9500 Pro 128 agp dvi-i tvout
antec SX630II 17in chassis 3x5.25 5x3.5 Beige P4 300W

Are all those thing compatible with each other?
On the case's info it says P4, but its not for p4's only is it? Or its limited to p4 "shaped" mobos only?

price: 943.84 CDN

There's no such thing as a P4 "shaped" mobo. It's either ATX or it isn't. There is however, an extra 12v(I think) plug for the P4 but it's not needed for AMD.

I'd suggest you'd get 2x256MB Infineon PC3200 RAM otherwise you won't be taking advantage of dual channel memory.

At one time the p4 heatsink apperatus(sp?) was connected directly to the case for stabilty. This is no longer the case and it's now directly on the motherboard. Yes, the p4 requires an extra 12v line to power the pci and agp slots. It's the square connector on most modern psu's.

my question is:
Will that case work with an amd board or no. lol

Well thats assuming that the case conforms to the ATX standards, which I assume it is, but check it out for the term ATX in the description.

That's an ATX case and the Gigabyte AMD mobo that you posted before will fit in the case......its all good
