need host for a forum

When I was looking for a forum software many people said that UBB will cause problems when installed on a free server. People say that UBB eats a lot of server resources.

Have you considered using Ikonboard? It installs on most fwp's having cgi enabled. No php or mySQL needed.

I don't know this for a fact, but someone on this forum said ikonboard uses a lot more resources than UBB. I'd believe it too.

thanks alot...ne 1 know of a cgi forum that doesn't take up lots up resourse....what about the new ubb v6 beta....any suggestions

It was me... But they say that IkonBoard 3 will use a lot less resources. We'll see about that, for it may also be a viable alternative when it is released.

Coolguy, as for UBB v6 beta, there has been a lot of heat surrounding vBulletin's and UBB's forums (found on http://www.vbulletin.com and http://www.infopop.com respectively) on how UBB 6 is indeed slower (and therefore more resource intensive) than it's 5.x counterpart.

PHPBB, in my opinion, has too large of a font size in its posts and I cannot find anything that lets me change it. However, I find vBulletin to be just as good (better even, as you don't need to hack it up a lot to find some of the most common features like UBB does) as UBB.

you can't change the font size in phpbb...that sucks :( i was thinkin of using them but after that last comment i don't think i'll be using it....:(

You could, but I just couldn't find it. And from all the other forums I have seen, they seem to use that super large font also for the posts. A good bet would be to go to http://www.phpbb.com and ask if changing the font of the posts is possible.
