Is it just me, or....

I've noticed a decrease in activity lately as well, accompanied by a sharp increase in hostility between hosts.

Hosts that don't spam their ads won't post on a place that is likely to cause problems for them, and clients don't want to request services on a site that doesn't get regular attention from good service providers that will answer them quickly.

Ultimately FWS will end up just another link farm, overrun by backlink spammers at this rate.

I've noticed a decrease in activity lately as well, accompanied by a sharp increase in hostility between hosts.

That is mainly due to all of these kiddie hosts being called out here lately for running fake "companies" and trying to pass themselves off as high profile CEOs when they have no clue what it takes to run a legitimate business or go about filing business documents correctly or reporting their income to the IRS. Clients need to be aware ahead of time who their host really is. They're under the impression that it's some extremely stable multi-million dollar corporation when in fact, it's just some pimple faced prepubescent goof ball who still lives at home with their parents. What does that say about the rest of us who are trying to make it ligitimately in a market that is already over-run and saturated with dufaces who spend their allowance on a $10 VPS or a reseller account, and now all of a sudden they're the next biggest thing since sliced bread.

As I do whenever someone says FWS is dying (happens every other year) I go check the stats. vBulletin has a nice feature named "User Activity Statistics". Turns out it is twice as high as the same time last year. Number of posts per day has also increased during this time.

If you compare to ten years ago, yes activity is lower. Someone mentioned earlier in this thread why that is. Free webhosting was very popular at that time. And forums was very popular too. Very few of the popular forums of that time are still around. FWS is one of the few.

Some of that time spent on forums are now spent on social networks like Facebook and twitter. But there's still plenty of visitors to this forum since it is targeted to a specific audience. They just spend less time on forums and more on social networks. Activity has been stable or slightly growing during the last three years. So, I'm confident we'll be here 10 years from now too.

I know the moderate posts for new members are annoying. We've been able to stop a lot of spam with some other tools since the upgrade of vBulletin 4, so we might remove or reduce that moderation.

OMFG Peo posted :D

I understand that, but sometimes it sucks to wait until a mod approves your post!

Other option is a forum full of offers to sell you things to make bits grow

And they don't work, my boobs are still the same size...

I'm highly offended that my name dont show as bold (as compared to another newbies) when I post on a thread.
For this reason I come here little.

I dunno why you do it really, often posts get let through because at first glance they "seem" legit.
Fair enough if it was 100% proof to not fail, but it isnt.

A very small percentage slipped though the cracks, but the amount of spam etc that didn't justifies it. And all that pr0n we saved you from!

Yes, we should THANK Jan for saving us from all that pr0n  - bet there's a few disagree :biggrin2:

Wonder who's first to :rolleyes2 my moneys on Ben...

OMGWTFBBQ!?!?!?!?!? Giancarlo, back????
I was going to post this, but you already beat me to it. I guess a quote will have to do.

Anyway as has been said, I don't think it's FWS, but forums in general. Everything is all Facebook and twitter now.

I don't have Facebook and I don't understand Twitter, what with all those #!@!@$*&^ nonsense.

Get off my lawn, you darn social kids!

Bloody hell - the Old Guard is back :D

Wonder how many other lost souls will return :) or is Peo on the phone constantly ringing round everyone...

Yeah. Somehow I still come back though. A lot of forums are dying now. People only seem to care about social networks and porn.
Yep, you are damn right! Cooperating with with search engines, social networks has killed most of forums.
