How do free no ad hosts make money?

I can see it they send you like 10 pop up ads each page and make money through advertising, but I don't understand ad free (not that I'm complaining or anything). Is it just a way to get you to pay for their premium service or something?

In many cases, yes.

However, in a few cases, they have pornographic error 404 pages, and sometimes they redirect your site's traffic to them even if the page/file in question exists (freehostempire.com and web1000.com are notorious for this). Watch out for them!

i heard brinkster is a good free no ad host. Do they make any money, redirect to porn, or spam your email?
 
The thing is, they don't make money. Unless as Cracker said, they redirect you to porn ads.

A pathetic text link or a homepage link doesn't really help the free host, and people consider this an ad. :rolleyes:
 
I agree that some companies offer no ads free hosting earn money from their paid hosting. Some times they just give us small features like low bandwith if we register with free domain hosting.
Like lonex.org they give us free domain hosting without ads but they just give 10 mb bandwith for live (not per month) :biggrin2:
And some of them also earn money from donate
Btw I use specific email to register free hosting without ads but until now I haven´t got spam email from them or from other companies :D
 
brinkster is a absolutely ad. free hosting - no spam, no porn error page, no links. however, it's currently down... :(
 
most free hosts are supported by a big company that stands behind them, or there is someone making a lot of money who hires a person to run a few servers and make people happy.
