Cash? Like you're gonna put USD Currency in an envelope and send it to the host via snail mail?

That's a bit risky IMO. Have you ever though about using paypal or writing a check/money order?

I agree! You should consider at minimal finding a host that will accept US money order and proceed that way.
Cash will not protect "you" in any way. With a money order at least you will have some sort of receipt that you did actually pay.

If you live outside the US, there are a few hosts that will accept Western Union transfers as well (although usually only if paid yearly).
