Oh, and make absolutely certain that under no circumstance can you actually login directly using the username root. All shells that need root access should be able to use sudo, or su -.
that way security breach gets at best an unprivileged account first, buying you time to stop the intruder before they can break the root password.

Hi guys - I am the owner of ThisWeekInWebhosting, and yes we were hacked.
I am no longer the owner of Pinghoster and Freewebhosting world.
We have relaunched the site, after we have been assured by a reputable server management company that our server is now as secure as possible (you should see some of these passwords, and firewalls in place). We are still using Wordpress, and have it as up to date as possible.
If you have any questions, I would be more than happy to answer them
