Host for my forum (YaBB)

Since mycgiserver.com no longer supports perl, I am in need of a new host for my forums. I use YaBB (http://www.yabb.org) and I need a host that supports perl and .htaccess files. I need a fast webhost with at least 5MB. Any suggestions? Ads are OK (pefer banners, not pop-ups).

I know this isn't much of a suggestion, but if you can't find a decent free cgi enabled host, would you consider a php board (and host that supports php)?

I don't know of any good free php boards out there, but if there is one, that would be great. I checked out the vbulletin board(link on bottom of page), but they cost money. They do have a free version, but it says it does not have all the features of the full one. Does anyone know what features are in the free one?

not much...

Just to add something-a group of us web masters from 50megs just made a killer http://cultforums.netfirms.com ikonboard (the cult is what we decided to call outselves since there already wasa 50megs guild-we had a awesome group of folks in teh tech forum so you know how that goes... :) ) and host it at netfirms whose speed is pretty decent. I have ezboard.com for my site's message board and have had to for a year, but I do like the features of the Ikonboard environment. :)

http://www.ikonboard.com is a free perl board and it might end up being better than ubb and vbulliten.

so go to http://www.portland.co.uk and sign up with them, then download ikonboard from http://www.ikonboard.com

there is a nice community of people at their support forums that will help you with add-ons, hacks, customization, installation, and more.

Ikonboard is ok, but it lacks one very important feature, Guest Posting. I like to use guest posting to "jump start" the boards, so people will start posting. They are easier to install (hey, I got it working :) ) though.

I've looked at http://www.portland.co.uk , but they only allow 100MB of transfer per month...which is not enough for my forums.

I have also tried spaceports.com, but their cgi server is slow as hell so Im still looking for a host. Any other suggestions for host?

chances are that it will be added in the next version or someone will make a hack for it because plenty of people have asked for it.

cool idea

it is a bit annoying that theres no gues post feature but this is how i got round it
registered a user "Guest" then chmodded guest.cgi which is in the members dir to 755 so no1 can access or change the profile
it aint the best idea but better than nout
