yeah I think that is not fair. You cannot control who hotlinks from your site. so I think they should have other ways to protect themself from hotlinking

Hopefully not those like HostUltra's or 9cy's or else one cannot play media files in certain browsers. However, there are antileech scripts that aren't that buggy - for instance, Crosswinds.net has an antileech script which successfully stops outside linking and audio/video files are still able to play from their server (if one is patient enough to wait for their slow server to download it, that is).

Crossswinds are bad. I'v had many problems with them. They don't even have a FTp. Also, there you can't hyperlink for some reason.

Yeah, I don't like CW either. Although they offer "unlimited" webspace with unmetered data transfer and no file size limit, they also offer unlimited server sluggishness to go with it. They may have no FTP for free, but it was a choice between that or shutting down due to warez abusers (don't blame CW for that, blame the warez idiots who have nothing better to do than illegally cater to cheap asses who would break the law just so that they wouldn't have to pay for copyrighted software). It is also true that they block outside linking to non-HTML files, but no free host allows that, since it uses bandwidth without showing ads in return.
