Free Hosting - No Ads - How does it work ?

Reading the requests section there are people requesting free hosting with no ads.

I can understand the model of funding the rental & support costs of a server purely through advertising revenue and therefore offering free hosting this way.

How does anyone offering free hosting without advertising actually balance their books ?

Placing ads on their own site, in the control panel (for non-cpanel kinda hosts), selling your details to spammers, and other naughty activities... a lot of people just do it out of kindness... yeah right.

Some no-ad free hosts hope that people will eventually upgrade to paid accounts, or they have enough paid accounts to offset the cost.
