Free host with Lots of space and ftp or.....

Hi :)

I'm looking for a webhost or domain provider for my site that I've been hosting on my computer so far. Right now I have a free domain on dns2go.com but they will stop the free services real soon so..........

I either have to find another good free domain provider like dns2go or.......

I will need a host with a lot of space - 150MB + and FTP access. And preferably no ads but if there's gotta be ads I don't mind as long as it's banners and no pop-ups :)

Hi Mrs McLaren, welcome to FWS.

I don't think you will have much luck finding a host with that amount of space. What sort of site is it that you have? What type of files etc?

And free domains are as rare as hen's teeth now :p

Well it's a site dedicated to my two favorite games. You could say it's my homepage I guess. But I like to use Flash 5 and stuff like that and I have downloads for the games... it's kind of a big site. Right now it takes about 90MB on my hard disk but I'm still working on it and I'm gonna add more downloads even after it's done. So I'm not even sure if 150MB is enough :(

hi, are you any good with web designing? If you are, pm me with a screenshot of your home page and we may be able to work out a deal

Since you're already using a DNS service, why not just switch to: http://www.dyndns.org/ for the same type of free service and still host on your own computer.

If none of your files are larger than 250 kb, I'd recommend http://www.t35.com/ , but they have popunder ads. However, if you want absolutely no ads, you could take your chances with http://www.freehostempire.com/ , but beware of random porn "error 404's;" even if all your links work, the server sometimes "hiccups" and generates that error anyway (they offer pretty much the same things as T35, except FHE has no ads and no server side scripting).

If none of your files are larger than 1 mb, and they're in .zip format, I'd recommend http://www.hostultra.com/ , but they have exit popunders. I hate to say this, but you'll have to accept popunders on your site if you want good free hosting.

Thanks :)

Most of my files are under 1MB but I have a few exceptions in my downloads I'm afraid :( And also I haven't finished my Flash 5 intro yet (I expect it to be kind of big in duration and the quality of the graphics it's pretty good as well) and I have no idea how much memory it will take. I could host some of the bigger files somewhere else and use hotlinking maybe?

Now as far as the porn error goes, I've seen it happening on another site (a .com one too!) and I really don't like the idea so no thanks hehe ;)

But I'm thinking of the dns thingy and hostultra.com....could you explain what a popunder is please? :)

A popunder is a window that is like a popup, but it goes behind all the open windows, so if you're site's visitors are clueless, they won't see the ad until they close the first browser window.

Oh...

So that thing shows a new popunder window everytime a new page is loading or is it just a window for the whole site? It just sucks to visit a site and have a whole storm of popups (or whatever) with every new page you see :( For starters it make the loading time longer.........

And when it comes to hotlinking well I have to make sure that hostultra.com allows hotlinking from other sources. So does anybody know for sure if they do? :)

Well I already have a Geocities account - I think I can store my big files there :)

And for now I'm thinking of hostultra.com - I just need to know if they allow hotlinking so I can make this work :)

So much for hostultra :angry2:

It keeps saying that the service in unavelable in my county and won't let me register boohoo....... :(

So I guess I have to find something else now :(
