i have downloaded an exe file from the net which installs a program..the file (i guess) is made by a programmer. the files plays a song while installing..is there anyway to extract the song from the exe file

thanks

I have never heard of this before?. .exe is for programs & not music files from what I know off. I may be wrong but am sure others could provide more info on this.

not really unsual craig, the author probably just added a music to his program.
as for the topic, the only way I know is to record it manually.

Ah, I think I understand.

Try this, as a guess.

Open volume controls. Click Properties in the file.. menu. Click recording and click ok. Choose Stereo mix but make sure it isn't muted.

Next open sound recorder (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Entertainment), hit record and play the sounds in your program. Save it as mp3.

Well... There is the opening of it in an event editor... But that can be tricky and is normaly only used to hack/crack an exe :p It will also be hard to find one that does not have 1,000 instances of spyware/adware in :p

The problem with what T.M said is that if the music i want to extract is panned...which means some bits play from the left speaker and then the right...it wont be recorded if i use the sound recorder...

Hosting shack..if you know or have any links to hack/crack exe programs then please post them here....thanks for all your help guys anyway

those musics in exe are old school, made with "trackers". I never tryed to
extract them, just go ahead and record with some free utility.

i think the musicwill not be located in the exe file it will be located some where else on the hdd the exe just plays it or it maybe be located in an assembly (*.dll)

music in exe

these type of exe are mostly from the demo scene, but that is another story.
those may have separete folders with the content for playing.

about the crack exe with music (some have visual effects also) there a few, but not that much. "Paradox" and other groups do have nice cracks with sound, visual effects, and etc, while they patch the programs.

but I remember making small musics with programs called trackers, mainly
in Amiga, latter in the pc. they used samples that were used to build
patterns and this way a 1 m file could play for 5 minutes, using short samples.

Finally I remember using some demo tools to build these exe and they used
these trackers built in inside. no outside folders or dll´s. all hermetic.

if you want to check out this demoscene winamp will play those files.

but not those exe used to patch programs. I wouldn´t mess witht those.

just grab any recorder from google (there are thousands) and record it.
I don´t see why it wont work, it will record from wave, and job done.

exe and sound

he wants to extract the music from the exe, wich seems to be a patch/crack.
win rar will not extract those, rigth?

just exe the exe and while it plays, record it.

as for the asking of cracks (even with music and video) I guess this isn´t
the rigth place.

just google "demo scene", you´ll find thousands of interesting similiar stuff,
and then play it with winamp. Don´t mess with those exe.

just record the music while the exe is beeing executed :)

and be carefull downloading cracks just to hear music. That´s dangerous.:rolleyes2

you´ll find out the hard way that some "bad" cracks do not have sound and visuals.

look here and you´ll learn everything about exe with music/video, and
the so called demo scene (very old but very cool!)

wow, in this modern day and age, why settle for .exe's for music when you can use gnutella clients like limewire and just get the .mp3 or .ogg or .wav format?

well, of course, p2p, bit-torrent, etc gives us the mp3, but it is interesting
to see someone interested in getting exe to play music.
of course what he should look for is mod´s and other old formats. not cracks!

you know, back then there was no compression, one had to sample very small
parts of sound to play a full music. With this method, I could hear a clone
music using small samples of it. If the tracker was talented, the result would
be incredible. 22.000kz 8 bit stereo samples all together packed in a file
usually caled mod, latter xm, would play the music with a 500, 600 k file size.

winamp is the only comercial player that still suports this old formats.

well, those times are gone, of course, but large database of these mod´s and
xm´s (and other similiar formats, like it or others) are still arround.

But one thing that hasn´t gone is the demo scene, where very talented
graphic designers and musics make contests of their works, some very
impressive I migth add!. And that is what some exe/cracks still do for fun
while...fixing the aplications...

Anyway, tools have changed to give us much higher levels of creativity.

back then, making music was something like coding an aplication, if no MIDI
keyboard/cable was used (very rare). all was like countless 00010001 lines.

thank good to soud forge, nuendo, cubase and others. much easyer.

Lol i remember all the .mod or .xm files, i think http://andrelouis.com/mods has some there.
Regarding downloading a crack just for getting music, that is very stupid. But the sound recorder thing should work, only if you want sterrio, you will have to click convert now in file/properties and sellect something like 44.1 khz 16 bit sterrio or something like that; you can downgrade the sample rate if you want to make a smaller file size.
Hth.

i dont want to download the crack just to listen to the music...i downloaded a crack i realised i liked the music and was wondering if there's a way to extract it.

you could see if it was a resource in the exe with like Resource Viewer or you could record, without noise and whatever of dub cables, gogole for Virtual Audio Cable

I would just say that if you are not a talented coder, or decoder, it will be difficult to "extract it".

you´ll need:

1- a traker. (pro-traker, it, xm etc,)

2- a hex viewer and editor (ouch)

3- lot´s of pacience and know how.

I would really recomend a free simple recording utility, really. much simpler.
