Database recovery

a mysql database or two accidentally got deleted from my web server, how do i recover it?

I only have reseller level access, not root.

When databases are deleted, they are just that, deleted, unrecoverable. They are not kept anywhere unless the databases are mirrored as a backup. You could ask your host if they are keeping like a week's worth of database images, but this is VERY VERY VERY unlikely, and on top of that, be ready to shell out $$$ for them to get em for you if on the off chance they would have them.

You should have made backups. If you don't have any, ask your host and they may perform weekly or even daily backups.

Somewhere in your hosts TOS should state something like backups are your responsibility, but they might keep backups.

I always was under the impression that it was the responsibility of the Server Administration team that had root level access to the server to do backups for the whole server, and never the responsibility of the owner of a reseller let alone the responsibility of the customer to do their own backups.

Well, you were under the wrong impression. It is the responsability of whoever the Terms Of Service (that you accept) says.

I've never known that to be the case, except when you pay a lot more and backups are explicitly stated as one of the reasons the service costs more (i.e. enterprise hosting).

Your data is absolutely your responsibility unless otherwise stated or advertised. That's a bit like sayings it's Microsoft's responsibility to keep backups of everyones Windows installation simply because they provide the OS, it's quite ridiculous.
