It works fine for shared hosting, it just does not work for you as you prefer to lock people in for an entire year.

How would you feel if burger king required you to buy a years worth of burgers because they
fear that you did not like the last burger? and you may not be back next month for another burger?
Do you think that is fair? Do you think it is fair to be locked into for another 11 months of
burgers that may or may not turn out to be bad burgers, but you are stuck with them regardless...

at this time there is no video chat; I can not guarantee that
would not ever change in the future. This is a chat mod for
Vbulletin - cometchat - If you need more tech info on how much
resources the mod uses, then you would have to look up the specs.
the high end version does support video; I do not have that version.
 
Sounds like from what i read you would need a vps. This thing is a pretty big resource hog.

Lets not get over dramatic unless you oversell resources...

I think the worry of chat is over-rated, as long as I have the available
resources/bw, etc, then exactly why would live chat be a concern?
so i see it one of two ways: 1: You have over-sold me resources that
you know that your server may not be able to keep up. 2: I have so much
traffic anyway that I would not be asking for shared hosting for obvious reasons, and in this case, if i had traffic, chatters, then I would need a vps.

at this time, I do not fall into option #2

So within the 5-10 min that you posted this, I would like to see your research....
you auto assumed just because it was a vb chat mod then an automatic vps is required....

It took me 5 seconds to find this on their website:

most of those complaints where last year complaints on an
older version. I am not sure if they have improved any...the
mod itself does not require a vps, if I had a lot of traffic then
that would be another story, why pay vps rates so I can see
some spiders float around on my forum? One person was talking
about having 25 members. I have no where that many members
in chat, and as hard as it takes to get a forum off the ground,
then it could even be sometime before I have any number of
online chatters...so you are saying that a mod is so bad that
shared hosting can not support 25 members in chat? We also do
not know the reliability of his host either. All shared hosting is
not equal, some are more reliable then others....

Gotlinks, you seem to be lacking knowledge in how exactly shared hosting works. There is a lot more than just bandwidth and disk space (your "resources"). When it comes to chat of any kind, it is normally RAM/CPU usage that comes into play, and it has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with overselling/underselling, etc. No host is going to let you eat up their entire server's memory, or slam the CPU with a chat script. That is exactly why many hosts disallow chat scripts in their TOS.

Saying you need a VPS for this sort of thing, isn't a bad recommendation at all.

I do not see how a shared cloud account would help support this any more than a normal shared server enviroment. Okay it is more scaleable however it will make no real difference in this situation because at the end of the day it is still going to use the same amount of CPU and ram.

I also think cloud Linux wouldn't be suitable in this case because it would cause the site to be unavailable on high usage.

So for you I would recommend a VPS or dedicated server.
