Bill Gates is extremely smart in business development. He surrounded himself with the right people. Anyone who says he isnt smart can feel free compare their bank account to his. He didnt "inherit" his money either like the Wally World family. He is a self made billionaire.
I am a Linux guy myself, but even I can see the internet would be nowhere near what it is without Windows. Only many years after Windows made it's debut has Linux started making it into home computers. Most people barely know how to operate Windows, these people (the majority) certainly cant run Linux. I'd bet 99% of Linux guru's got their start on a Windows computer. Once learning Linux (or other ops) you help grow them.
Gates made the internet grow faster with Windows and Internet Explorer. Gates also has the world's richest charity organization. I think something like 1/2 of all his income goes to it? Sure, it's a tax writeoff, but I think he would still do it if it wasnt. The only reason he isnt richer than the top 1000 richest people in the world "combined" is because he gives half his income away. Sure, his software has bugs, even linux progs have bugs. And yes his business tactics are aggressive..... it's survival of the fittest. However, can you name any other person in this world who is smart enough to make multi-billions every year, and help millions across the world off his OWN income?
Steve Jobs isnt even in the same catagory as Gates. If I was Gates, I wouldnt really care whether you thought I was smart or not. I would wave a check in your face that equals only 30 seconds worth of my pay, and tell you a smart man could make that in less than a year. It was once $300 per second. Then it soared to $15,000 per second. Are YOU making $450,000 per year? If not, then you really cant rag on him, can you?
