I actually have a host that has given me a great offer, but before I say yes to them I would like to see whats around.
Whats important to me is that if I pay then I would like to know my host is here to stay, in other words a reliable host. I would also like a great uptime and not so very strict rules. My page is for personal use. I use it to learn, play, work, develope and online storage. So I save files (exe, zip, mp3, etc...), which most of isnt copyrighted, but sometimes I may put files that are copyrighted but if I download them it wouldnt be illegal. These files will not be availeble to the public, just for me (only non-copyrighted files will if needed be availeble for the public).
I also need php, mysql, atleast 2gb bandwidth, atleast 50mb space and the basic stuff. Currently i dont have any domain and would like a subdomain, but i would also have the possibility to host a domain in the future.

I know I ask for alot, but this are my needs :biggrin2:

You will probably need to look for a server not in the US or UK. No responsible hosting business in the US or UK will allow copyrighted materials to be on the server. The problem is, some data centers, if they find out about it, will immediately pull the server, which leaves the hosts clients at great risk.

You may be able to find some offshore hosts in Asia that can do this for you.

ok i thought that maybe because i own the files legally that some host would host me.
i think i will remove that request, but keep the rest.
i forgot too ad that since this is a personal page and i will not get any money from it the price must not be too high. i will pay for good service, but i am not full of money

OK granted offering copyrighted X for download is illegal guys, natch. But this is not this guy's intent; he's talking about storage/backup of his property, which wasn't illegal last I checked, and actually I thought some hosts catered to exclusively. If you're still not gettin me, consider this:

Is it illegal to rip your CD's to mp3 and store them in your secure (not public) webspace b/c you have limited HD capacity? Or maybe you're traveling and want access to your music at your destination but don't want to carry around a zillion CD's. Or maybe you're building a new PC for the first time and you upload your *entire* old sys -progs, OS, and all- in case something goes wrong.

If that's illegal then arrest me b/c I'm guilty on all charges, and I'll bet dollars to donuts I'd have a lot of company in jail. :bandit2:

But the point is it's NOT illegal; it's storage/backup. Having said that however, you still may encounter some difficulty finding a host, b/c even when your content is made unavailable to the general public, there's still nothing really stopping you from sharing access to your secure areas. So, in addition to finding a host that you trust (which is difficult enough), you'll also need to find one that trusts YOU! Good luck.

Try convincing the RIAA and the U.S. Court system that you were only using it for "personal" usage. Will be very hard.

It's stored on a server that is shared with other users, even if outside users cannot access it.

It is an unfortunate position that people need to prove that files are for personal use rather than the courts/RIAA proving they are not. It seems to be a bit of a flip of the assumption of innocence.

And it is also concerning that ISP's / webhosts are being put in a position where they have police their users on top of everything they do already.

Anyway -

If you adhere to our conditions of use we would be happy to have you (I guess anybody could say this) - for $ 5 - $10 a month I think we can give you pretty much everything you need - subdoms, php etc etc.

Now that I think about it, I guess it's also where you store your servers (has a host). If you own the servers (colo), I think the Datacenter would be less concerned than if you had them leased at say... RackShack or ServerMatrix. IMO
 
ok, forget the copyrighted material part. i will host files, but only non copyrighted (i'm not dumb, i know that if i host copyrighted files i will lose the money i invested in the hosting, i know i will not get a refund)
dont worry (i'm not soo bad once you get to know me)

now, ive looked at dynamo-hosting and the personal one for 3/month looks great and the part about not overloading the servers (too many people on to few servers) is nice too. i do have some questions:
where is the servers located?
if there will be too many users do you make enough money to buy a new server (not overloading the servers)?
how old is the hosting part of dynamo (not including DynamoDesign)?

Yes, when the server reaches a certain capacity, we will definately expand with more servers, rather than overloading. So yes, we make enough to invest in more servers.

We started off as DynamoDesign over 1 year ago. While we were under that name, we offered web design and web hosting. In May of 2003, we started focusing solely on hosting, which is why we moved our site to DynamoHosting.net . So we have been doing hosting for over 1 year, but DynamoHosting itself is since May.

a friend of mine asked if you sell resellers?

and what is your policy on much use?
if i lets say use to much bandwidth do you suspend my account untill next month or do you let it goo and charges me for the extra use?

If you exceed your bandwidth limit, you will get a 'bandwidth limit exceeded' page on your site until you upgrade plans or add bandwidth with us, so your site wont be down an entire month.

When you reach 80% of your bandwidth, you will have an email sent to you, and around that time, we recommend you upgrade your plan by contacting us so you can prevent any downtime because of bandwidth exceeded.
