Well, it's official, Intel is about to lose the game, if they haven't already (Intel's Hex core, which has 6 physical and 6 logical equaling 12 cores, is about 1000 USD if I recall.)

These new hex cores fit in already-made AM3 Slot 140W Motherboards, so no need to upgrade a motherboard if you have one that supports it.

I believe so, I only build PC's every few years though - so if I built one now I probably wouldn't get a Bulldozer based PC.

They look good too; double cores inside one core, making a 4 core CPU physically an 8 core CPU rather than using logical cores. Nice going AMD. Also, the bulldozer will be the first to incorporate the GPU on-die with the CPU, making the AMD Fusion Brand.

Bulldozer X6 will have 12 cores, and it's a mainstream processor; Opteron is not mainstream.

So will it drop in a quad core Phenom mobo? I have the 9550 now.

No, you're using a AM2+, you need a AM3.

Also note that Bulldozer won't work in current AM3 motherboards, you'll need an AM3r2 motherboard (Which haven't been made yet.)
