....A request to hosts....

When someone makes a request for a host, carefully read what they want, then carefully read the rules for posting.
When answering a request, you must include
1. The URL to the plan
2. The price
3. Describe or name the features that match the original request.
For instance, if someone asks, "Which webhosts offer 12 gigs of traffic?" If you offer such a package or know someone that does, you may respond only if you describe what you offer in that message in the format described above. Simply saying "we offer what you want, visit our site" is clearly spam and is not allowed.
Hosts may NOT respond to general questions posted by members who are looking for advice/opinions/suggestions/recommendations on which host to choose.

For instance, if someone asks, "I need at least 20 MB and FrontPage 98 support for less than $15, which host do you recommend?", then clearly this question is not directed to a webhost. It is directed to other webmasters who would be able to recommend a service.

An example was when someone recently requested an adult host, the host that replied did not allow adult content, so please read carefully before you reply. :classic2:

What about providing a link to a page that lists all standard features? It seems less wasteful/spamful to post the list rather than just copy and paste a long feature list. Then if there is something they requested and you do offer, you can add it after the link to standard features.

3. Describe or name the features that match the original request.

I can give you many examples of hosts that obviously don't read the post, but just want to promote their company. For instance, "paypal is a requirement" or "must be able to pay by cheque or money order". Just saying check out the offers at xyz.com do not answer his request.

Or there are requests for a certain dollar amount, and whilst you might be able to name the features the poster wanted, you have those features for a higher dollar rate than he/she wanted.

As per my original post, read carefully what is required, and it will save us mods valuable time editing/deleting posts or banning URLs etc :p

You don't have to post a whole list. Most people only specify 2-10 things that they want, most often around 3 things which must be listed:

URL of plan: http://youhost.com/plan2.html
Price: $10 mo.
Features: 50 MB and 2 GB transfer.

...etc.
