4gigs Free Webhosting Reopening

http://www.4gigs.com/

I'd like to announce the reopening of 4gigs Free Webhosting. We are currently taking applications for free web hosting. We are only accepting applications from sites that are complete (or nearly complete) and that fall into the categories of:

  • Internet or Computer Technology (Linux or Windows)
  • Gaming Sites (Clans are OK)
  • Movie and Entertainment Review and Information
  • Home / Garden / DIY
  • Research and Educational
  • Business Resources
  • Web Designer Resources
  • Religious or Charity Organizations
  • Health Information

We are NOT sponsoring sites like blogs, organized political groups, pornography or sexually explicit material, violent or hate group sites, photo gallery only sites, or commercial sites (sites doing business over the Internet as their primary function).

We will require a small banner ad (less than 468x60, with a text link below) to be on the bottom of every page, static or dynamically generated.

Now here's what we'll be offering:

  • As much disk space as you need (within reason, this is NOT unlimited - see below)
  • As much bandwidth as you need (within reason, this is NOT unlimited - see below)
  • PHP, MySQL, CGI/Perl, Ruby, and Python
  • Cpanel or Plesk Hosting (at our discression)
  • Full Domain or Subdomain (subdomains only allowed if you do not own a domain)
  • Forum and e-mail support
  • Up to 5 POP3/IMAP e-mails with virus and spam control

When we say "As much space and bandwidth as you need", we mean just that... this is not an unlimited offer. If your website takes up an extreme amount of resources, we may be forced to discontinue your account or ask you to start pay hosting. We will be VERY flexible with this however, and it will be evaulated on a case by case basis. We're not going to pull a bait-and-switch type move here.

Its prudent I think to list here why we're doing this. We get 3 main benefits out of hosting your site for free: the ability to show ads for us and select partners on your website, and the link back -- the ability for you to gain phone and trouble ticket support and a service level agreement with professional hosting if you decide to upgrade to that -- and finally, we want to build referals and satisified customers to help get the word out about our paid hosting, OCS Solutions (http://www.ocssolutions.com/).

Since I'm being honest about what we want, we expect our users to be honest and let us know what their site will require. We want to host busy and interactive sites, that will help us both out. Of course, if you plan on making money with your site (other than taking donations), we will want you to purchase professional hosting. It's only reasonable to ask that we feel.

Please browse our site at http://www.4gigs.com/ and let me know what you think about our offer. We want to be as flexible and open to the free hosting community as possible, so any comments are appreciated. If you don't fit into the above categories or want a personal site hosted for free, active participation in our forums (http://www.4gigs.com/forums/) and the willingness to moderate one of them will certainly be repaid with a free account.

Thanks for reading this long winded post, I just thought it would be good to fully explain what we're going to be doing.

You do have to have a website up for review, as its the only way we can check for legal and appropriate content, etc.

I wanted to clairify that we won't be running Google AdSense banners at this time, only graphical banners (mainly for us, and less wide than 468x60). We also will not run any banners that are offensive or obnoxious. No popups or popbehinds either.

Also, the banner can be anywhere on the pages you want.

If you guys are the original 4gigs, then you have my vouch of confidence. Before I started using payhosts or buying my own servers, I used 4gigs to host stuff :) Excellent service, excellent people.

although, i never use them before. but i did heard alot of them . they are really good hosting company as well .

welcome back, 4gigs. and thanks for the reopening free hosting to all user .

Yes, we really are the same folks and servers that ran 4gigs about 2 years ago. I appreciate your kind words and support and if there is anything that we can do to improve our service offerings let us know.

I'll try out for it.. here's my battle.net clan site (I made it...and I"ve been working on GFX for it)

http://www.geocities.com/Clan_Deadly2004

that's really just the tip of the iceberg, as I said, I am creating more GFX and better layouts for it. I'm also working on fixing my errors & stuff that i've been getting

Edit: If I get in, here's what I'll be needing

About 150-200MB space...
About 2 gigs or so in BandWith (I'm leniant on this one, as 2Gigs is probably lots)
Up to 3-4 parked Domains
FTP accounts
etc etc
cPanel 8 (if possible... cPanel 9 is just fine, but cPanel is pretty much what I like to use, and what I've been using until my host like messed with my cPanel name)

We dont host music or downloads except in certain circumstances. We basically take those on a case-by-case basis. You can e-mail 4gigs@ocstech.net with any questions, or post in the forums to see what we'll allow.

We are accepting alot of folks, but also rejecting alot of sites too. The #1 reason that we are rejecting sites is not filling out the form fully. If the welcome letter bounces back (not putting your correct e-mail), we delete the account. Alot of rejections can be avoided by just being careful to fill out the entire form.

It can take up to 96 hours to hear from us regarding accepting or rejecting your site, so if you don't hear back immediately don't worry, we just haven't gotten to yours yet.

--- Oh yes, additionally --
We have been asked by more than one person what the maximum disk space or bandwidth we give is. There isn't really a maximum for either, its evaulated based on what you say you will need in your application (we base bandwidht off of disk space and visitors). We just ask you to be honest and up front with your requirements, and we'll be happy to give you the space and bandwidth you need.

We look at EACH application very carefully (as long as its filled out fully) and evaulate the site. We don't go by how we like the site, we go by is it complete, original, and meets our guidelines. Its not uncommon to spend 10 minutes over one application.

You'd be supprised at this, but we also get alot of people who put down that "Google.com" or "Yahoo.com" is their site :) Of course, we'd be happy to host either, but I'm sure they'd probably give us a ring :) It all comes down to the #1 tip to being accepted is to be complete and honest in the application!

sorry to say but you cant give that much space for free good job scamming all though

what makes you think he cant ;) hell i know of a place called clubhost thats giving away gigs of space for free. i mean cant is not a word that can be used for hosting.

Robert can give his clients as much product as he want, it makes great competition :D

think you need to rethink your full goal dude, and try not to slam your competition like that.

You have a problem with your forum registration. Once you click on I agree on these terms, etc, etc. It just says "Sorry, but this username has already been taken.". I didn't even inputted anything yet. o_O

Anyway, I'll just post my concerns here. Are scanlations allowed? Scanlations are scans from graphic novels from Japan or Taiwan that are edited and translated to English by fans for those who cannot understand Japanese/Chinese. Of course, the graphic novels are not licensed by any American companies. I've asked some free webhosts about if it's considered illegal but they said it's ok. It's basically a service by fans.

Since it's a download site, I really need a lot of bandwidth (15-20gb or more) but I do get hits. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v87/fangli/others/mnk02-14.jpg

Will those kind of sites be ok?
