this site is on drupal. we are getting 404 error when we click on any link. im not sure how to fix this. someone told me apache is not able to overright the default .htaccess

can you guys give me some idea on how to fix 404 error.

Fix your permalinks for drupal.

Note that often with 500 errors, you can find more information about the problem in the error log for your site. Not always, but its worth a look.
