Hey everyone.
Several weeks ago I posted a thread directed at people from Australia as I was considering going to school there.
Well, I have a quick update on that. I got accepted into the following Universities:
1. Macquarie University
2. University of Western Sydney
3. Newcastle University
(Still waiting on University of Sydney)
My general area of study is business and I am applying for graduate degrees (I already have an undergrad degree in business management from a local university here in Chicago).
I am guessing from what online research I did that Macquarie is probably the better one of the above (at least out of those I got offers from already).
Now I have a few more questions as I weigh my options.
About the education
What do you guys think of Macquarie University? What do business people/employers think of it?
It is located in North Ryde, about 16km from Sydney CBD. I hear that's a good area?
Also, how do you guys feel about a Master of Commerce in Marketing degree? How prestigious/desirable/marketable/etc. is it? How would you compare it to an MBA?
About Australia in general
I read online that there are snakes in Sydney, some of them venomous? I hope that's a vastly exaggerated threat as I have a fear of animals that are out to get me. I have horrible luck with animals so if there is any chance I could be hurt by one it will probably happen to me.
Also, what is the insect situation like? Like are there lots of little flies and bugs and what not? I hear that it gets pretty bad out there.
Is public transportation safe at night in the area of the school (North Ryde)? Like if I were to go somewhere and return home around midnight or so.
Lastly, how hard is it to find some sort of temporary job (I will probably want to work at least during the longer breaks)?
That's all I could think of for now.
Feel free to ask me some questions too. I really want to get a good feel of what I'm getting myself into. Thanks!
