I know there are a lot of people getting WM6 phones, and may want to change their soft keys for the phone. This works on the T-Mobile Wing (HTS Herald). I have found plenty of ways to change the soft keys online, but, Nothing to change them back to the original settings. This can be a pain if you dont remember them, so, i figured that i would make a post on how to change them, and what the default values are.
Remember that any changes you make to your phone, you are doing at the risk of messing it up. I cant be help liable if you brick your phone, or mess something up. Make sure you know what you are doing, or dont even bother. that being said, lets get this going.
ok, first things first, you need to get something like Resco Registry Editor to edit the registry. there are some free ones out there. Go find them if you dont have one already and you dont want to pay. please dont ask me, Google is your friend.
once you get a registry editor, navigate to the following path
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mictosoft\Today\Keys\
there will more than likely only be one folder there. it will be fore the left soft key. (folder 112)
the default value for the left soft key is to open your Calendar.
if you open that folder, there are two (2) files in it.
(Default)
Open
the value set for (Default) is Calendar. You can change what the value says to change the text for the soft key
the default value for Open is "\Windows\calendar.exe" (with quotes). You can change the String Value to whatever path of any program you want to open. You will first have to find that program you want to change it to though.
Once you change the value, click OK, and save the changes. Do a soft rest on the phone, and voilà, you have changed your left soft key
if you want to change the right soft key, and there is no folder 113 in the Keys folder, then create one. the (Default) file will appear in there automatically. Change the String to What you want the key to say, and then you need to add a new Sting Value and enter the Name and Open, adn the String to something like "\Windows\icontacts.exe. If you decide to change the right soft key back to the regular setting, you cant delete the 113 folder to do so. Instead, change the string to "Windows\AppButtons\contacts.lnk" and make sure to change the text for the soft key in the (Default) file.
Just remember that you need to do a soft reset to make the changes take effect.
