I have been studying digital marketing on my own and these two terms came across. Please help me clear that what is the concept of IP based virtual hosting and name-based virtual hosting? And what is it's use?

Hey there!
IP-based virtual hosting is a method to apply different directives based on the IP address and port a request is received on. Most commonly, this is used to serve different websites on different ports or interfaces.
In many cases, name-based virtual hosts are more convenient, because they allow many virtual hosts to share a single address/port.

IP-based virtual hosts use the connection's IP address to decide which virtual host to serve. As a result, each host will require its IP address.
The server relies on the client to report the hostname as part of the HTTP headers when using name-based virtual hosting. Many different hosts can share the same IP address using this method.

Name-based virtual hosting is typically easier to set up because all you have to do is configure your DNS server to map each hostname to the relevant IP address, and then configure the Apache HTTP Server to recognize the various hostnames. The demand for scarce IP addresses is also reduced with name-based virtual hosting. Unless you're utilizing equipment that requires IP-based virtual hosting, you should use name-based virtual hosting.

For a general-purpose webserver, the historical grounds for IP-based virtual hosting based on client support are no longer valid. Name-based virtual hosting is based on the IP-based virtual host selection algorithm, which means that searches for the correct server name are limited to virtual hosts with the best IP address.

Hosting based on IP addresses is faster than hosting based on domain names. Before utilising an IP address to connect to a server, name-based addressing necessitates an IP lookup for the name. When you host directly from an IP address, you can skip this step.

Self-hosting of websites on PCs using the public IP address of the machine is also possible with IP-based hosting, which eliminates the need to register a domain name and host the website with a web hosting provider.

A way of hosting several websites on a single machine is known as virtual hosting. Virtual hosting can be divided into two categories: name-based virtual hosting and IP-based virtual hosting. IP-based virtual hosting is a mechanism that uses the IP address and port of a request to apply different directives. IP-based virtual hosting allows you to provide each website on a single server its own IP address. This is primarily used to host many websites on various ports and IP addresses.

IP-based hosting allows a website to be hosted on a unique IP address, rather than sharing an IP address with other websites. This allows for better website performance and security, as well as the ability to customize DNS settings and use SSL certificates. It also allows for easier identification and tracking of a website's traffic and activity.

IP-based hosting is a type of hosting that is provided by hosting providers to their customers. It is called "IP-based" because it is based on the use of IP addresses, rather than domain names, to identify and access websites.

In this type of hosting, each website is assigned a unique IP address, which is used to identify and access the website. When a user types in the IP address of a website in their web browser, the browser sends a request to the server that hosts the website, and the server responds by sending the content of the website back to the user's browser.

IP-based hosting is useful in a number of situations. For example, it can be used when a domain name has not yet been registered or when a domain name cannot be used for some reason (e.g., due to technical difficulties or legal issues). It can also be used to host multiple websites on a single server, with each website being assigned its own unique IP address.

Overall, IP-based hosting is an important part of the internet infrastructure, and it enables users to access websites and other online resources using their IP addresses, rather than just domain names.
