What is the difference between micro-blogging and blogging??

Micro blogging is typically smaller compared to normal (macro) blogging. in some cases it can use upto 140 characters while the normal one can have 500 characters or even more.

Microblogging is generally one or two line thoughts which is pointless babble about eating or breathing, tweets from Twitter (which is a microblogging platform itself).
Blogging is more explained theories or opinions, discussed in depth. Think blogger and wordpress.

According to me, micro-blogging & blogging both are forms of social networking. If we talk about blogging, it is the way to describe yourself in a written form according to your own requirement. If we talk about micro-blogging, it describes the shorter form of communication. Such as Twitter is the best example of micro-blogging.
They differ in depth. A blog post is detailed and a microblog post is short.
Tweeter is a microblog, in 140 characters you can share a lot of useful (or pointless) stuff, from exactly what you are doing right now, to a link which explains the entire history of World War 2.
Another great example of a microblog would be one related to books. You could share quotes, passages, summary and personal feelings about a book. Tumblr is famous for this format
I have also seen bloggers combining the two perfectly, they write their long detailed posts, but also share content they find elsewhere, followed by a short description of why they thought of sharing that with their audience

Micro blogging is the small content in characters of 50 to 70 words that include 140 to 150 words in it, whereas the blogging is the theory or the complete explanation about the topic in detail.

Blogging sites are not as active as a microblogging site. A new blog might appear after a long interval that depends on the users convenience, however a microblogging site is much more active with new posts appearing within seconds.
Another basic difference is the philosophy behind the development of both the sites. A blogging site is not meant to keep the user and his friends updated about the day to day activities of the user and vice versa while micro-blogging sites aim t do exactly that.

In blogging there is no limit of words while in micro-blogging word limit is near about 140-150 words.
