Should i overclock my AMD 3500+ AMD 64? whats the benefits and whats the negatives of doing this. And would i see a large improvement?

Pros:
Faster (duh)

Cons:
Hotter
Voids warranty
Will likely shorten the life of the chip

If your box is fast enough then don't bother. If you want to get a little more speed out of it then go for it.

There are too many cons that outweigh the pros , I think your processor is plenty fast so I wouldn't overclock it just at this moment.

Here's my pros and cons:

Pros
Faster with just about anything depening on your OC (Big + when you get serious)

Cons
Voids warranty

You decide
Will become hotter, but if you have the appropriate cooling it will be fine.
It will shorten the life, but how long until you plan on upgrading?

The pros and cons mentioned, I feel at least, are a bit extreme...you could overclock it a couple of hundred megahertz quite safely, and even utilize ram better.

Are you just tweakin bios settings?

I find most chips are actually underclocked, so if you tweak them a little bit, it won't hurt...

My motherboard is a Asus A8N-E, comes with an AI Overclocking feature. I enabled it and overclocked it to 10% which changes my 2.2ghz to 2.42ghz. My CPU temp is around 35 Degrees and system is 37 Degrees. Im using Sopranao Thermal take case and theres 3 fans in my comp. Everything seems to be stable, or is there some way i can check if its stable.

Overclocking something that fast and new is something I wouldn't recommend. The speed difference you will see compared to the negative possibilities including ruining the chip. Just not worth it.

Hmmm seems pretty stable at the moment. should i leave it as it is at 2.42ghz its only a 10% increase, not that dramatic

I was wondering if my CPU temp was alright, it idles at 35-40 degrees... but when my comps has tonnes of progs on it slows down and the temperature is around 50-55 degrees. Is that bad? my motherboard is a Asus A8N-E..

That's a little warmer than I'd like under load on an A64 chip, but you should be fine.

My 3000+ Winchester runs at 32/38C (idle/load) with the stock HSF though sometimes a bit cooler depending on the weather.

i agree it's almost the same as a p4 clocked at 3.5 and urs is a amd...never ever will u need to overclock taht

lol true, i overclocked my AMD to 2.53 and thats max im willing to go..., why am i overclocking such a fast cpu? i have no idea "-_-... I plan on upgrading to amdx2 when i get the chance =]

Depends on your system Marki. Do you think your CPU is limiting your FPS? A lot of games are limited by your graphics card, so overclocking your proc might just be hurting your CPU for no reason.

Btw, I'm jealous, I'm still running on a Barton 2500+.
