MySQL Optimization: Newbie questions

I know some basic stuff from MySQL and PhpMyAdmin like searching tables, replacing fields, doing a backup of all mysql tables etc.

I want to learn about MySQL Optimization. What should I do to optimize all of MySQL tables? And also is there any danger of MySQL Crashing if I optimize mysql tables through PhpMyadmin?

To optimize a database it'd be best if you create all your tables and normalize it to reduce redundant data. Separate tables into dependent and independent tables, best done by completely normalizing the database.
