My Floopy Drive has gone walkies!

How can i add itBack? Add Hardware wizard isnt working

(OS: WINXP )
 
Try re-installing XP. I have xp too - it's coo! Once, I FRIED my floppy drive... smoke came out of it because I put the power in upside down when I was hooking it back up. Went to the store and got another for $20. Lol.
 
Your floppy should automatically be recognized here are a few things to check:
Your Bios make sure your floppy is all enabled properly, or just hit default.
If that doesn't work check your cables to see that they are all connected properly. Including the power cable.
Check to see if it is recognized in start up.
See if the light on it flashes at start up.
Check the jumpers to make sure one didn't come loose (happened to me once)

If none of those worked tell me, if it doesn't pass all those things I just ask let me know which ones it didn't and I could tell you how to possibly fix it.

That is what you do if you can't get it working but just cause it doesn't work all the sudden doesn't mean you go out and buy a new one. To some people $20 ain't cheap. and if you do get a new floppy I recommend an LS-120 much more convinient.
 
LS-120's take those 100mb disks or however big they are, don't they?

I suggest just ditching the floppy drive, and replace it with a nice cover.

Who needs floppy drives in this day and age? :cool2:
 
LS-120 are 120mb disks that are the same exact size as regular floppies, they are more convienient than burning cds and are very good for back up and much better than zip drives
 
well as far as i know i dont think they are being sold/made anymore, so i would say check secondhand computer magazines and swap meets and stuff.

They still make them, they just never caught on, what a shame.
 
I would recommend just buying a new one. I had one *die*, and even though I rarely used it, was able to get a new one for around $AUD20 and I still rarely use it :confused2

I would just buy a regular floppy drive cheap if you need a quick replacement..

I own an LS-120 Superdisk drive, and it's only good for using it on my PC since I am the only one I know who has the drive. You won't find many people who have one also, so it's really not useful if you want to use superdisks on another computer.. Also, superdisks aren't cheap.

For mass storage, I would just get a cheap cd burner.. cd's are also cheaper, and there's so much more you can do with a burner..
