how about bandwidth? 1mbps? 2mbps? or 10? 100mbps? do you want it multi-homed or single-homed?

I'd go for the latest technology: AMD Opterons

For unmanaged, It go for around $900? I'm not sure cause i have a server a little better specs than this up in NY and it has a 30Mbps line for $500/month...

I have absolutly no clue how much it is if it was managed...

I'll contact the datacenter and see if I can get a reduction on price for knocking out one hard drive. You don't want the second drive in RAID 1 for backup purposes?
 
Brinks, you must post more information than that.

1. Whats your network?
2. What is the line your connecting him to, which has been the major concern throughout this thread. It must be an unmetered line.
3. Managed or unmanaged?
4. IP's? it takes at least 2 IP addresses to set up a nameserver.
5. Control panel included? If not, how much extra?

a dedicated 10mbps line (multi-homed bandwidth) can cost around $350 - $400/month. Plus the hardware, you need around $600/month.

if you are on shared line, it might be cheaper, but you cannot get full 10mbps

If your talking about lines, I rcommend unmetered connections, and of course the faster the better.

If I have it with one drive, I can get you the server for 225$ a month. Mind you thats the basic server with a 10mbs unmertered line. Bigger lines cost extra. personally I like the second drive for backups, but whatever you need goes :D. Let me know what you think.
