Dont think this thread is needed..
You should consider banning proxys though. Your die really fast if you host proxys on oversold accounts.

Can close if the mods like. I will mention that I was able to fill up the /home/ partition. Despite what was mentioned. The box wasn't clustered - nor was it SAN connected. I also didn't see where it even had an HBA.

I ran it up to 98% and decided to kill the data I had there instead of possibly affecting another one of your customers.
Code:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda3 15G 585M 13G 5% /
/dev/sda1 99M 15M 80M 16% /boot
tmpfs 1.5G 0 1.5G 0% /dev/shm
/dev/sda8 166G 98G 61G 62% /home
/dev/sda7 965M 31M 885M 4% /tmp
/dev/sda5 15G 4.0G 9.5G 30% /usr
/dev/sda2 24G 4.1G 19G 19% /var

You might wonder how I got this information and it was all done through cron since I didn't have shell access.

Throughout the day I didn't see any real issues with the network connectivity and since this wasn't quite the extended test I had originally planned - I think most came clear after logging into the box.

Overall for the time I played - I found that I personally would recommend you make some changes to the configuration of the box as it doesn't seem to have any restraints of CPU usage and/or resource hog monitoring.

Overall, my personal opinion is "The Stealthy One" seems to be a nice guy with a thoroughly honest nature about being in the business. I would highly recommend you change your plans to something more possible but your marketing strategy is really none of my business. Although, I tried to look at this from a consumer standpoint. I can clearly see that your current architecture is not going to support even 1 customer with those kind of requirements. It isn't ethical and in my opinion it is enticing honest consumers with something that is unobtainable. You mentioned that it is not yet SAN connected - and when you move to a clustered environment.... I think you are moving in the right direction if you are wanting to sell plans like this but what about the customers now? Me included? I paid for a full month and I definitely don't have 10TB disk available. Would I be the first customer that complained?

I just think you may need a reality check and need to consider the customer. You may think they are only out $1 but they could be out much more if you don't follow through with your promises in the end.

I wish I had more time to play with this but after it became apparent that not even 200GB of disk was available...9.8TB shy of what you sold me - there wasn't any sense in me wasting my time or possibly causing the box to crash / become unstable.

You did surprise me though! I was really thinking I would see this on one of jaguarpc's VPS' :) It wasn't. So that made me feel a little better.

Best of luck!

This is quite sad thread. :knockedou

Look, everybody knows it's overselling, you don't need to waste your time and actually signup for the service and "check it out". Don't you have better things to do? It's all a bit immature.

In the case scenario you created yourself, (and are very proud of it!) the man who expected 10TBs for 1 dollar in the first place is the foolish one. :D

And as others pointed out this "look at this ridiculous overselling" talk is nothing new, it's a fact of life in the hosting world today. Just learn to live and compete with it. Certainly don't signup for the service

For me this thread deserves placement in the "Threads to Remember section".
