Can anybody give me an approximate cost for web hosting in India.

If you are thinking of hosting from an Indian server, You have to pay a lot compared to US hosting. Most of the Indian Hosting biz's too rely on US servers(Including me). If you need it anyway, try contacting BSNL, Reliance and may be net4india.

Resellerclub has some Indian hosting plans.
I purchase domain names from them, but have not purchased hosting from them yet - so not sure about the service (good service for domain names, though).

As bagpiper mentioned, if you opt for indian hosting, you will have to pay more for less when compared to US hosting.
I am based in India but use a US server.

What I have noticed is that the majority of USA-based hosting providers launch their second/third datacenter in India, I think it will allow reaching clients in Asia.

Bandwidth.

Currently it is priced at 800-1000 USD/ Mbps per month.

1:1 usage ration. This is quality International bandwidth over Singtel and/or Global Crossing. Not sure of pricing for lower quality services.
