I'm advertising a contest that's giving away free items, of them includes xbox live cards, ps network cards, and something more, a 21.5" LED monitor. All of which is free.

Its been about two weeks now, and I've had no one enter the contest. What type of contest? A posting one, to increase post counts and awareness of the website.

Any ideas why people wouldn't want that free stuff?

They probably think it's not legitimate, or you're trying to buy them.

Odd, well, its legit, and my site isn't fake. I've got SSL to prove it. Hm, I guess I'll extend the contest to the end of May. Especially since I'm in the middle of redesigning my website.

That is really weird indeed. What kind of website is it? Maybe its not related to the stuff you are offering?

I offer It services normally, and its part of my community forum. I have few members so I started the contest and advertised on over 20 forums and other sites. Its related to what I normally offer.

The XBOX Points may be your downfall. Whenever you hear about Points as prizes, they're usually scams. I do actually tell people (like my cousin) to stay clear of places that offer XBOX points, as hacks, for free or as a prize just in case they're a scam - because he always falls for the scams so it's easier to just tell him to stay clear lol.

So, having a verified and registered company with secured links means....nothing. Awesome. Then there are people out there who are idiots. As I've seen 24 hosts go down within the past two months. Yet people still go with mysterious hosts and businesses rather than trusting a company that is valid and verified.

People trust the wrong companies online these days. They trust Facebook with privacy, they trust PayPal with their money. Wouldn't take it personally.

I've held a couple of contests and sometimes there's few entries. What always helps is if you submit your contest url to sites listing contests. You can get a lot of traffic from those sites. Obviously in this case you'd want to get traffic from webhosting related sites. I would suggest paying for advertising or to hold the contest on a webhosting related site with your company as a sponsor of the contest.

I have my doubts about how effective facebook ads are, but I haven't tried it.

Our experience with Facebook ads hasn't been all that great. The ROI is pretty poor, but if you are using it for brand awareness only, then I guess it would be ok.

No site which is selling ads can't guarantee ROI, IMHO.

ROI really depends on how you designed the add (your title, text of ad), and how your page is designed, if it has a "Call to action" or not.

Its worth a shot. I mean, I'd rather pay $100 a month for facebook ads and get at least a few guaranteed hits than pay over $500 for a newspaper ad and get a 1% chance to get any customers.
